>tfw too much of a pussy to play horror games
How do I stop being afraid of pixels on a computer screen?
>>
>>332672035
you don't? isn't that the appeal of horror games, to be afraid to play them? to feel the tension of progressing?

if you get over that, why play a horror game?
>>
Watch someone else play horror games. Or play with a friend.
>>
>>332672380
>Or play with a friend.
r-right
>>
>>332672035
To be fair with you. Today there are a lot of pixels. It's okay to be afraid senpai.
I'm afraid too.
>>
>>332672451
Playing with a friend, at least in my case, takes away everything of terror from the game. I don't pay attention to it, and everyone is laughing.

There is no way around it. To enjoy horror games is to be fine with the anxiety caused by it. I can't manage it and just close Dead Space after 10min of tension.

You play MORE of them.
Rejoice, my son, as you are not one of the brain-dead internet-tough-guy dorks, who are totally can't get properly immersed into the games.

Now, I'm an old-time horror fan myself. I eat Silent Hills and Penumbras for breakfast, and I'm constantly looking for my new fix. However, I'm not afraid to admit that I wasn't like this at the beginning. At younger age, I seriously played the Resident Evils & Silent Hills around 30 minutes at once, usually from a save-spot to another or so, before literally having to take a break just to calm my nerves.

This slow snailing ultimately allowed me to push through the games all on my own, and also made the experiences feel much grander than they probably were in reality. And I didn't stop there, no sir: I usually replayed the game right after the credits had rolled, with all the goodies / alternative campaigns offered by New Game+. The few games that also cranked up the difficulty a notch on NG+ also finally got me out of my comfort zone of playing all new games on Easy at first, as I came to realize what kind of kiddy-gloves some titles put on when playing on the lower modes.

I'd recommend starting with some good oldschool survival horror games. Silent Hills are great examples, as they do not rely on jump-scares, but instead use creepy atmosphere and imagery. The fancy, deep plots and superb atmosphere and visuals also can help you appreciate the games more, and help you "look past" the spookiness, if that makes any sense?

Everybody is a pussy.
There's no use hiding it.

Pretend that you're Steve Irwin going on a hunt through the wilderness.
See a monster? Say to yourself in a thick aussie accent CRIKEY WHAT A BEAUT, NOW DONT GET TOO CLOSE CAUSE YOU DONT WANNA SCARE 'IM.
Picture yourself in those rugged khaki shorts and shirt and nothing will be able to scare you.
>>
Just slowly play through them, OP

I'm honestly pretty jealous of you. I've played so many horror games they don't scare me nearly as much as they did when I was younger. Enjoy it while ya got it.

Pretty much this. Expose yourself more to the subject, and you slowly develop some level of resistance to it.

Wanna play SH1-4 on your PC? Then consult this SH PC Guide, and grab em from these DL-links:

SH1 NTSC DDL:
https://mega.nz/#!bVUCTJzD!PmnPw4S7fWGyvTjw9S0-RQdk7rRp2BQNuXJqRkZCZvk

SH2 DDL:

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

>Play skyrim
>Constantly afraid, draugr rising from graves in the walls nearly makes me quit

>Fallout ghouls are terrifying to me
>That mission in NV where you kill the invisible dude at night that's eating the old couple's brahmin nearly made me quit

I think it's more fear of not knowing what's coming, rather than anything actually spooky. I sometimes look at walkthroughs to make sure no jump-scares or nasty surprises are coming.

I myself can't play horror games properly. The tension kills me.
I find that the difference between jumpscare (terror)games (terror) and tension-building anxiety-inducing (horror) games very big.

I'm quite okay with the former, and i can't handle the latter well.
>>
Let me ask my wifes son he loves those games when he's not programming in the basement
>>
Watch horror movies, play a lot of horror games.
I'm on the other end of the spectrum, I can't find any of those that will scare me, excluding an occasional ingenious jumpscare, and it sucks, because I love being scared. Rewatching The Thing and Alien and replaying Silent Hills and Resident Evils every year since I was a kid must have desensitized me.
>>
>>332672035
i don't know, never had such issue, maybe because I always realized there's screen between me and that world, horror movies bore shit out of me
>>
>>332673326
Try playing with low sound, lights. Try to break the atmosphere a little. It may damage the experience, but if you can't have it another way try putting some song that you like to play along.

Play F.E.A.R. It's one of the least spookiest horror games I've played and one of the only horror games I can play without alt+f4 in first 10 minutes. Theres a lot of action so the spooky shit just comes and goes without giving you a heart attack.
>>
If games would stop using jumpscare tactics, I would play horror games more.

Play with a friend, if you can. Just one friend - any more and it turns into a farce. That's what I used to do instead of horror movie marathons - either playing or watching someone complete a game or two in one sitting.

I recently sat with a buddy while he beat SH2 for the first time, mutely for the most part, refusing to break tension with jokes and whatnot.

I just don't like fucking jumpscares... Same with movies.

are you fucking retarded? most of until dawn is not a jump scare, you know exactly what's coming. you can probably count the jump scares on your hand. meanwhile PT is literally a jump scare simulator. every event is a jump scare in that demo.

I wish I could be more scared.

The last game to even give me a hint of it was Alien Isolation.

The last game to properly make me scared was the DayZ Mod back in 2012.

I played the demo of nosferatu shadow of malachai (or however it's spelled) when I was little and that shit probably caused me to be afraid of the smallest of jumpscares
