I guess this may be an agreeable list, I haven't really played WA so I can't judge it's story. Then again, the DC/SS campaign has almost none of it to begin with.

I never played them precisely because it has no DC/SS like campaign. I just got the Grand Master collection through HB so I'm wondering which of the DoW 2 games to install, if any.

The Campaign mode in Soulstorm is less fun and more suffering. The characters in Soulstorm are all unlikable cunts, except Vance. The voice acting is absolutely fucking horrible, especially compared to the stellar voicing from the previous games.

For some reason, the developers felt the need to "rebalance" the gameplay portion of the campaign, even though it's single player only. That means that everything got toned down - almost all of the Commanders' best upgrades got nerfed. As if that wasn't enough, defense missions are also extremely painful now. Why? Because in Dark Crusade, all structures that you've built in a mission would remain on the map the next time you play. That was mostly to compensate for the fact that you don't start out with your Commander/Honor Guard as you would normally when attacking. In Soulstorm, they removed that, so every single time, all the structures you've built magically disappear from the map after you win. Having to play the same two-three maps over and over and over again on the enemy's turn when he's attacking you, always starting from just your HQ and your stationed units there is incredibly boring and time consuming. And to top it all off, they also nerfed the bonuses you get - there are no longer any specials "out there" on the map for you to get, only Honor Guard. Some tiny production bonuses are also scattered around the map, but they're not even worth the time, really. Instead, every faction starts with its own special bonus that the others get after conquering their HQ. That sounds like nice balance on paper, but it's not really, since many of the factions start with useless arbitrary stuff (Tau, Necrons), absolutely worthless stuff (Chaos), while the downright overpowered specials, of course, belong to the Eldar and the Sisters of Battle.

They will be Black and Grey with an eye as the symbol. They are non-religious secular chapter who fights for reviving scientific interest in humanity and restoring justice in the face of the imperium tyranny. They'll have their own free world like the Tau but without magic superstition, only technology and human wit. The tragic irony being that the emperor wanted it more than modern imperium.

$12 is pretty good for attila even if you didnt get the rest of the shit along with it. but i think Shogun 2 and FotS is still best total war.

I thought so too.
Turns out that only Chaos Rising is an expansion pack to the original Dawn of War 2 (it doesn't even download or install anything).
All the Dawn of War 1 games are stand alone and Dawn of War 2 Retribution is stand alone too.
If you want all races in Dawn of War 2, then install Retribution only, I think. Dawn of War 2 with Chaos Rising doesn't have Imperial Guard.

i loved the fuck out of dark crusade when it came out. played through the campaign with every race, and it was the only game in my whole life that i actually enjoyed playing competitive multiplayer for a while.
i much more recently picked up soulstorm during a sale and it left a bad taste in my mouth. i was incredibly disappointed that they took out the persistent buildings in defense battles (i didn't even know beforehand, it really caught me by surprise at my first defense battle and I was furious). i got a mod to fix it but it just wasn't the same and i ended up not even making it through half a campaign.
last week i bought the sega bundle for attila and over the past couple days i've been trying DoW2. really don't like it. base building is 65% of the fun in RTS games for me. probably won't be finishing it.

I mean, it's good that they didn't make it stale; even though a basebuilding DoW2 format would probably do well, the tactical combat format proved to be pretty fun and engaging on its own.

I played dawn of war 2 (pirated edition) and later bought dow2 and chaos rising. For some reason I didn't get into the chaos rising campaign as much but dawn of war 2 was, to me, a significantly more interesting single player experience than sc2. I'm a big fan of rts and basebuilding but I admired the squad-based tactics In a stripped down micro-based way.
I think I bought retribution but never played it.
Tbh famila, multiplayer felt kinda like shit in both dow2 and dow2:cr. Did they fix it in retribution? Really no idea how people played it. And this is coming from a masters 1v1 player in sc2. So yeah. It's not like I'm bad at rts. Even competed in c&c3 when it had a scene, and loved total annilation and supcom.

The keys in the humble bundle are 1 for each "tier" of the pack.
So DoW is packed with everything else in tier 1 in one key, DoW 2 is packed with everything else in tier 2 key.
So don't expect any free keys being thrown around.
I actually have a free DoW 1 key (since I already purchased it last December) but it would be a real shame to throw away the Company of Heroes that comes with it too.
Probably gonna give it to a smurf account so I have someone to play DoW 1 with, since all my friends hate it (even though they were the ones who made me purchase DoW 1 in the first place, kek).

Depends on what game you're talking about. I have literally no idea about IG in DoW2, they seem really weird.
In DoW, just rush Grenade Launchers and make sure to use nearby buildings - all imperial infantry can be put into them and use weapons inside them, which are vastly superior to the Guardsmen' initially equipped flashlights. It's better to only put two squads into building even though some have a limit of 3, since the third weapon set - although it's an autocannon (i think) has very low damage compared to normal autocannons. First tier is lasguns (vastly superior, the kind of lasguns that are on chimera) second tier is plasma (ironically inferior to actual plasma ugprade for Guardsmen) and third tier is autocannon if I remember correctly.
Also make sure to use your commander as a damage sponge, coz that's what he is initially. He is a squad unit that can be replenished on the go, so try to keep at least one unit in the squad alive so you can always replenish the main damage sponge directly on the field.
As for what units to add to the squad, initially you want a Comissar - he is made the fastest and he's the toughest and he has the best ranged attack and a tolerable melee attack. Later on, in T2, Psykers are useful if the enemy has vehicles and you should always have at least one Priest in your Command squad since he provides a +50% damage increase (doesn't stack though). In super late game, the commander typically dies too fast though, so you either want 1 Commander + 4 Priests - giving you 40 seconds of complete damage & morale invulnerability, making a MASSIVE damage sponge, or 1 Commander + 1 Priest (for Morale resotre) + 3 Psykers and use him from range and spam Psyker abilities.
Once IG get to T2, you want your vehicle building out ASAP and make a Chimera, then either Sentinel (if he's doing vehicles) or Hellhound (vs mass infantry & buildings).
In T3, you pretty much autowin because of superior tech & vehicles.

Is this a joke? DC and SS are far more balanced (at the moment, with all bugs fixed). That timeline of Self Destruction is outdated. Eldar were by far the most overpowered in DoW, with no competition. They're still overpowered in SS but there's some actual competition for them with other overpowered factions like Tau, DE and CSM. Only SoB's and Necrons are truly worthless and unwinnable with in SS.

No, you can still play Retribution vanilla by launching it normally. You use a special shortcut to launch Elite Mod

You only need the latest version, which is 2.5.1. You just run the installer, let it do its thing, then launch the mod from the shortcut and play.

It's never fun to play against the AI because the AI is broken and has retarded behaviors in both Elite and vanilla. I'd recommend only playing against the AI to mess around with and get to know unit abilities and loadouts.

No, it's purely a competitive mod for multiplayer, thought you can still launch the campaign from the mod itself which can result in some weird behaviors. In the last Elite patch it turned Sentinels invisible due to texture issues so you'd only see a floating lasgun walking around instead.

Only as a Last Stand commander. Retribution has Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, Imperial Guard, Orks and Tyranids by default. Elite Mod adds Grey Knights as a faction, or Ordo Malleus as they're now referred to in the mod officially.

I honestly prefer the more story driven campaigns like in base dow and in chaos rising. If I wanted to play as other races I'd do it in multiplayer. I don't need to play the same maps over and over as other races.
