How would trading/battling work?
The mainline pokemon games suck because they're based on grinding, hatching eggs, invisible stats such as EVs and IVs and other unexplained game mechanics designed to manipulate RNG and waste your time, etc. Online play is locked behind a timewall; hours of memorizing silly little rules and then actually executing these rules so you can create your team of 6 pokemon.
Console pokemon games are usually awesome and go down in history as cult classics such as Pokemon Snap, Hey You Pikachu, etc. I don't know why they don't make more games like this, instead of wasting our time with more shitty timesink games. Even the pokemon TCG games on the gameboy are better than the mainline pokemon games. I find it weird how most pokemon spinoffs are good yet the mainline games suck.

I absolutely agree with you on the sound issue, though it's funny how the Johto remixes sound great in my opinion, but the tilesets they used looked pretty damn nice. RSE's looked like fucking garbage so it was a nice upgrade from them. I understand they designed it with the GBA's terrible display in mind but god, it's still bad.

I feel like this only furthers my point. If the target audience does not care about these game mechanics, then why include them? In any other game, you wouldn't have to do all this grinding bullshit. Instead of EV training, when you level up, you'd simply be able to pick what stat you want a bonus in on a menu. No other RPG would have all this grinding fluff / filler content, and if they did, they'd receive low metascores. But because it's pokemon, it gets a free pass.

For sure the music would have better quality instead of the underwater trumpets we have for portables' soundtrack, as well as colorful graphics instead of monochromes. Trading pokémon looks impossible, but Nintendo surely would come up with a cable to link the console to GBs.
