I bought all 3 parts on a recent sale and I'm starting witht he first one, since I don't know too much about the Shadowrun universe.

Supposedly the first game is rather on the easy side and some people recommend even playing it on very hard.
Will it have a lot of bulletsponges and trial&error passages this way?
>>
Also any advice on character building would be appreciated.
Was thinking about a Dwarf Adept.
>>
>>332642632
Can't remember any real bullet sponges but you might hit a bit of trial and error if you personally get real fucked up and no one near has a trauma kit.
>Adept
Kind of meh throughout the series, they got assfucked the most by the changes from P&P, but they get better as the games go along. Spirit summoning is the next most fucked over, the fail chance is stupid. Neither are entirely useless, just nowhere near as good as they should be.
Riggers are powerhouses and you can't go wrong with a full street samurai loaded with guns and cyberwear.

>very hard
Expect a lot of miss and don't split your karma too much
>>
>>332643342
Any role that AI companions fail to fill, or does the game provide enough variety there?

>>332643398
Might start off with hard then. I just don't want it to be too easy.

Well fuck, I wish the game would at least give me some sort of description so I could pick the one that would fit best from an RP perspective.
>>
Character building is pretty easy in Shadowrun. Even on my first time playing, I ended up with a really OP player dude. The only thing you should look up is what etiquettes or whatever to learn. Like gang, corporate etc. because some of them get a lot of use while others get none, so you potentially fuck yourself out of a lot of choices based on a blind pick.

Also, just hang in there. Returns gets progressively worse the further you get in the story, but Dragonfall will make up for all of it. It's so good.
>>
>>332643557
It's pretty self explanatory

>Any role that AI companions fail to fill
I forget because I haven't played in ages but I think there are no adepts in any game and no rigger in the first two games, just hong kong. I remember no full on mage in dragon fall too.
Having said that they do cover the important stuff pretty well in all the games anyway so you can go ahead and be whatever.
>>
Skip to Dragonfall. Seriously.
Returns and Hong Kong are both kind of shit. Dragonfall is god tier.
>>
>>332643557
Corp = The Man
Security = guards of The Man
Gang = goons and thugs
Socialite = faggots
Shadowrunner = people doing the same shit you do
Street = everyday mooks
Academic = clever shit
>>
>>332643941
>>332644131
Well I'm torn between Shadowrunner, Gang and Street.

>>332643943
Isn't a rigger pretty much mandatory for any group of Shadowrunners?
>>
>>332641169
What this guy said >>332643948 regarding skipping the first game. Dragonfall is much better, and they're not connected. Hong Kong is alright though.
>>
>>332644289
>Isn't a rigger pretty much mandatory for any group of Shadowrunners?
Not as much in the vidya as only once in a blue moon does having rigging make a difference. Having two bots that are like having two more guys replacing yourself is glorious though.
>>
>summoner are still subpar
How do they keep fucking this up?
>>
>>332643948
>>332644315
Well I've been told it's the best entry point for anybody not to familiar with the universe and also not too long.

>>332644413
Okay, thanks.
>>
>>332644487
I would say it is because the summoning system is completely fucking different in a totally worse way from the P&P. How hard would it really have been to include the "summon a spirit/elemental it has x tasks owed to you so long as you didn't fuck up" rule instead of the "Need fetishes or you get a random shit that either needs babysitting if you have the spiritnobreak totem or will go rogue in two turns even though it says only 14% chance to break"
>>
>>332644520
>best entry point for anybody not to familiar with the universe
It probably is that, give you an idea of how things are. You are actually lucky you aren't into Shadowrun normally as the messed up plenty but you wouldn't know. Also they included Harlequin so fuck them!
>>
>>332645148
Well a friend of mine is running a Shadowrun group right now. I'm thinking of asking him if I could join.
>>
How important is Charisma in the games?
A must have like in a lot of other RPGs or can it be neglected?
>>
>>332645525
>can it be neglected?
So long as you aren't a shaman then yes. It is nice to have a few ettiquetes, and I will normally always spend the ponts for at least one, but not vital.

Well this was fun. Let's hope it doesn't get boring or unengaging fast.

>>332645714
Good to know, thanks.
>>
>>332644898
That and the fetish are expansive as fuck
>>
>>332646714
and the NPC shamans end up better just because they get stocked up on free ones every mission
>>
>>332647083
Fuck man, I bet the shame in the bg expansion will be shit too
>>
Does anyone know if that shadowrun online is any good? I have been on the fence for a long time over it

Would it work story-wise if I skip Returns and go straight for the Dragonfall?
