Incorrect. Characters are unlocked ingame the same way you unlocked characters in fighting games. The only microtransactions that will exist are cosmetic. And all future characters/modes/maps are free.

I saw a stream that got legendary gear from doing SP. And gear doesn't affect your playstyle in a way that defines it. Common level stuff might actually be better in the longrun because they're easier to activate whereas epic/legendary you need to grind for shards before you can use it in a match so you lose time and effort you could have been using in helping your time.

It's only similarities with OW is that it has hero characters and they're shooters. OW being a straight up TF2 clone while Battleborn is a proper hybrid of genres.
