Don't listen to >>332643914, the first game is the worst gameplay wise, and the EO games don't have an ongoing story and very little focus on their plots at all for that matter, so there's no reason to start with the first one to get the DEEPEST LORE or anything. 3 is the most original as it's pirate themed and you get your own ship, 4 is the best for just dungeon crawling, 5 will probably be better when it comes out since it'll be the most new and improved. Don't play the Untold games, they'rre just loose remakes of the main games but with more watered down and boring gameplay.

They aren't really "watered down," the older players hate them for things such as story mode and floor jump.
Untold versions have:
Floor jump, so completed floors can be jumped to easier.
3D models for the enemies rather than sprites
2 different sets of music.
Different (usually larger) floors.
Story mode in addition to the classic mode of previous titles.
There are other differences such as unique story areas, but these are the main things. Untold 1 is very good but it has the 1st Grimoire stone system (equippable skills) that was hamfisted and generally disliked, but the game was good, even the story mode. Untold 2 has a much better story, a fun grimoire system, and a very challenging classic mode,and nudie dlc. Untold 2 also removes the retarded level raising shenanigans of the original 2.
