So did anyone else switch sides tonight?
I was betting on P5 this whole time, but the delay last september, coupled with the troubling lack of news, now a full quarter into this year, killed any hype I had. I wasnt initially sold on FFXV but the announcements, the demo, the hype, and the security and comfort of knowing a release date is locked in made me give up on Atlus and Persona 5 tonight. Now I'm sure P5 will be good once it comes out, dont get me wrong, but everything else surrounding it has been really shady and rubbed me the wrong way. But I might wait for a sale or just even pirate P5 now because fuck Atlus for handling their biggest game ever so terribly.

That's the thing. I was never a big FF fan. I played the snes games, 7, 13 and that was it. I enjoy the series I guess you could say but am not a fan. If I was following this game since 2006 I can understand being pissed and wouldn't even look at this game. But I got a vested interest ever since E3 2013 with that amazing trailer and have been following it ever since. Besides, that was when they actually started. The game before that was just a concept with some fancy CGI, not an actual in development product.
And what has Atlus been doing in comparison since the announcement? Delaying it for shitty spinoffs and some janky low budget 3DS garbage. They did it not once, not twice, but three times and it will happen again sometime this year. Realistically, P5 will be out in 2018. It will be nowhere near the scope, density, or emotional ride that FFXV will be. It will be P4 in HD.
I have no hope for it, you see.

Nah. FF games range from terrible to pretty good in terms of gameplay. Persona has ranged from terrible to decent.
FFXV looks pretty awful to play, like babby's first action game, while we have no reason to believe Persona 5 will be any better than Persona 4 on a gameplay level.
Like all Persona fans I'm in it more for the story and charm than the gameplay.

FF is a juggernaut of a series and one with a rich and long history. I'd say the hype left at some point in 2009 or so. It wasn't until 2013 when it was confirmed with a trailer to actually be making progress. And the last year,combined with tonights big push, have been full hype mode.

I have played a lot of duscae and played around a little with the new demo tonight and while it is a bit clunky and rough, for the most part it plays like i expected it to. It could be a lot better, but its not bad in its current state. Its good but has room for improvement. Persona 3+ have always solid turn based gameplay to me. Its simple, fast, not bogged down in menus or shitty meters, and is mechanically simple with the element system. As far as turn based rpgs goes its up there for me. Not as engaging as an action based rpg but still fun.
Why do we have to pick a side?
I'm excited for both. I'm probably getting both, and there's really no need for there to be fanbase wars between these two series.

Im pretty split on how it will be. Using past Persona games as an indicator, its hopeful to say the game will be good. But all the delays mean only one thing: something critically wrong occured and they are damage controlling it by being quiet. Whether its a technical problem or an issue with the game story, pacing, systems and so on is up for you to decide.
Im leaning on the side that it will hopefully be ok, but really who knows now with how shady and quiet they've been.

This is going to sound harsh, but PS3 is dead. Period. Even in Japan it's becoming more and more irrelevant in terms of sales, and Japan was the country that opposed the most resistance to adopting PS4.
The people who actually buy games have moved on (including weebs), which is why you see some companies not bothering to even localize the PS3 versions of games anymore. Loud pockets on the internet are not representative of the full audience.

Normally I would agree with you completely but I'm sure many people bought a PS3 just for playing P5, either back when it was first announced or years before after playing P4 and expecting it to be the last PS2 game. Beyond that, they are also releasing Odin Sphere HD for the PS3, physical. Atlus is a terrible company all around but I don't think they would throw PS3 users under the bus, especially since a lot of weeaboos are sad schmucks whose only payday is once a year on their birthdays. P5 being PS3s swan swong would be similar to P4s situation back in 2008, interestingly enough.
