If you wanted to make a point you could have used the gameboy pocket and the DS Lite

Sony ironically kinda did it with the PSPgo. Some games came out exclusively on UMD after it was released, which oddly enough fucked over PSPgo owners unless they bought a regular PSP. Birth by Sleep was one example (which btw is still not on PSN.) I know its not really the same thing nor was it Sony's fault in most cases but I thought I'd mention it.

Pretty much. The only one that could be considered a failure in Japan was the SuperGrafx, since it was a barely upgraded version of the Coregrafx with an extra graphic processor and a slightly faster processor and there was no way to upgrade the older PCE console to run SGX games (so they only made five of them).Kinda like how the PS4k will end up being.
GBC came out like 10 years later & was only $99
Old 3DS was $200, now $100 for both O3DS & 2DS, N3DS's only exclusive is an old Wii Port, minor upgrade like DSI
PS4 was $400 & PS4K will be $500, if the rumors are true it's going to launch with God of War 4 & Deep Down, the latter being promised as a PS4 exclusive

Only some later GBC games did, lots used the old carts and could still be played on the old models and in color on GBC, like Pokemon G/S or the color version of Link's Awakening. GBA was also BC with all the GBC games so if you waited and got the GBA you played everything the GB/GBC had. GBC also had better hardware, an infrared sensor and was priced at $99 and got price drops soon after.
