Actually playing DS2 to prep for DS3. Why was DS2 so poorly recevied by the community?
IMO the biggest flaws so far are

They count most animations and actions by frames and set 30fps as the standard. It's pretty fucking stupid and I don't understand how even the b-team thought it could work. I suggest just capping your framerate so your not at a constant disadvantage. Unless you want the extra difficulty.

Ultragreatswords might ruin your first run because they chunk boss health like crazy.
I'd say do rapier and buckler on your first go because it'll familiarize you with the parry timings and your first go at most bosses will be memorable because you'll have to stick and move a lot more.

Not the guy but katanas in general are pretty strong across the board in souls games. They have a great blend of damage/swingspeed/range. Plus they have bleeding and have great scaling. They're just really good.
