I liked how much of a complex guy he was. You hate him at the start because all he seems to be is a drunk asshole but you find out he turned into a great hero who despite everything sacrificed himself to bring peace. FFX made mistakes when it came to sympathizing with Tidus but damn if his conflict about whether his father was a good or bad guy wasn't brought home.

Tidus is the best written FF character in the entire series. He reacts like a real human being, and most of the time he's scared shitless, but putting on a brave face. He goes from pretending to be a hero while really just wanting to find a way back home, to giving up on going home, dropping the act and becoming a true leader.
