Cloud's more or less a serious straight man that acts tough, abrasive, and/or introverted when he feels weak or inadequate, which Advent Children portrays pretty effectively. Any goofy shenanigans he gets up to in the original are purely situational and not an integral part of his personality itself. The movie is ten kinds of shit, but Cloud's personality is one of the very, very few things it got right.
Kingdom hearts Cloud is indeed an entirely different character, though. (literally)
