It honestly does seem really intense, but it gets a lot easier with some reading around. Since combos go opener - auto - linker - auto - linker - ender, and those are labelled on each character's movelist, it's not as crazy as it seemed at first. Just hammer Fulgore in practice

And lockout is when someone whiffs their breaker, so they can't use another and you're free to smack them with anything until that X over them disappears. The L-M-H that appears is the one they were being hit with, not the one they tried to break.

Look up Xoutput. Naturally, since Microsoft footed the bill, there's no DInput support, so that program translates it to Xinput. I'd suggest Joy2Key, but the game currently uses specific keyboard buttons for menu navigation, and doesn't just default to the Low and Medium attacks as controller surrogates.
