CTR obviously. I like planes and all, but in the end it was just a gimmick. CTR has some of the best kart racing mechanics around.

whenever people say this to discredit a game it usually means they were bad at it and that the game with tighter controls really just has a lower skill ceiling.
i've seen people play both competitively, CTR is a lot slower paced and even top CTR players admit that DKR has more mechanical depth.

CTR is one of the most technically impressive PlayStation games. The way devs managed to push the PSX hardware to create true 3D experience is a marvel, pushing it way beyond what it should have been able to do. The PSX hardware should not have been able to remotely compete with the N64 in this sort of game.
