Did anyone want to play this game?

Found out form the Valkyrie Profile thread earlier and I know I will be disappointed. The flat characters+perspective background looks so fucked up.

For those who didn't know you can download a prototype at the fundraiser site.

A demo, promo, or alpha. Prototypes are inventions + proof of concepts. There is only one prototype of a thing. The term doesn't apply to digital media.

It's almost like that's exactly what the Indivisible PROTOTYPE is and that's why it's called a prototype!

By strict definition you're not downloading a prototype. You're downloading a copy. If software is copied and distributed digitally it's effectively already in the mass production phase of development even if the previous phases of development aren't complete.

As I said, the term does not apply to digital media because they are not physical goods.

I'm aware that software can technically have a prototype. What I have trouble with is people thinking they're downloading a prototype. You can't distribute a prototype. There is only one. Calling something like this alpha or beta version of a game a prototype is a poor choice of words. You MIGHT be downloading a copy of a prototype, but as you can clearly see a copy of a prototype is not a prototype.

I'm happy they got their animated opening goal. I'm guessing their mystery animated studio is Trigger.

I wish they had advertised a little more that the campaign is still open for stretch goals. They shouldn't have put multiple endings so far at the end, after full VO. That should have been one of the first goals.

That hideous image is from the front page of their fundraiser. They're using it to fund the game!

Anyway I tried the prototype and I couldn't even make it to the end because it would stop recognizing my keystrokes every few minutes. Didn't expect quality, but I thought it would at least work.
>>
>>332469216
I liked the art style, and they mentioned that the backgrounds were going to get overhauled for the real game. I wouldn't mind if it went 2D, but as it stands it's a bit like Ori and the blind forest, which has lots of depths thanks to liberal use of 3D layers.
>>

>>
>>332472489
>anja on top
>anja's health bar not on top

>>
>>332469216
I think it could eventually be good but it's going to be a shit load of work.

This thing looks like it's a mess of different gameplay styles. metroidvania, platformer, turn based combat, fighting game style combos, rpg stats, huge roster of characters, etc. getting all that shit to work together and feel good is going to be a nightmare.

They probably should have just done a simpler action/platformer because that stuff already felt pretty good in the prototype.
>>
>>332471106

If it's software distributed to non-team member stakeholders of a project for the intention of proving the project concept and garnering support/funding for the project then it's a prototype, it doesn't matter how many stakeholders there are.

You think companies will go out of their way to get every single stakeholder in a conference room when a potential solution provider is going to demonstrate their prototype?

>>332473361

Software development is still in its infancy and is something constantly changing. I'm sorry dictionaries still haven't adopted the definition that software developers use. Dictionaries don't mention that prototypes can have several iterations either but they clearly do in the software industry. Dictionary definitions aren't always reflective of reality.
>>
>>332473832
I paid no attention to the shitstorm but I could swear this game was an action platformer by the first screens and that looked fine. You're telling me they're mashing all those genres together? That's gonna be a whole lot of work and real creativity.
>>
>>332469630
This isn't really a fair comparison. Tri-Ace was in a league of their own from the beginning with their visual quality and art direction and Indivisible's still trying to find its footing.

goddamn I miss the Tri-Ace that pushed systems to their limits and had some god-tier sprite animation and coordination with 3D environments. they really lost their way at some point.

Nope. It's being distributed to everyone; not just stakeholders.

>Software development is still in its infancy
Software development has been happening longer than you've been alive. That is enough time to add a definition to a dictionary if it's necessary. English scholars and professionals never deemed it necessary to make one word more complicated when there are several completely new words that describe the concept much more accurately.
>>
>>332474129
Pretty much all of that elements were present in VP, Mike Z has a huge boner for that game so he wanted to do his own vision of the "genre".

Then why would you explicitly state that it's distributed to stakeholders under specific circumstances instead of just saying it's distributed arbitrarily?

Do you really not see how you're slipping down this slope? You're hell bent on changing the definition of a word that has had a rock solid meaning for hundreds of years simply because you don't want to use more industry specific terms?

Call it an alpha/beta or a demo, or even a promotional copy of the game because that's exactly what it is.

I really don't see why you're so hung up on this. All I did was point out that better words could be used. Doesn't make sense that you would take it so personally unless you were the one who made the decision to call it that.

Because being unable to separate something has nothing to do with whether or not you can see it.

This is me talking about Indivisible only because I always look at the Valkryie Profile threads.

Try logging in later at night.

Magic is strong but you want to get as many crystals as possible for Seraphic Gate. Comboing is more fun too.

Shitposting. Duh.

If I'm playing the game for the first time, how would I know if that is always going to be the case for every succeeding chapter? I expect the difficulty of the games I play to ramp up as I progress so naturally I also expected that there would be more tasks given to the player in later chapters to make the time limit factor more challenging. It's just something that isn't communicated well to the player.

I honestly hope that's the answer

Some /my/ or /tv/ tripfag started demanding that people never reply to him again unless they're contributing to his discussion or his/the thread.

Also, the don't talk to me or my son ever again meme has caught on here recently.

The prototype was fine and the animations were mediocre, but will probably be better in the final release considering it was a prototype.

Why does everyone keep saying the mystery studio is Trigger?

Does anyone else find it amusing that gaymers always fall for this "but it's just a demo, things will change in the FINAL version." shit? Name one time where this was true.

>mfw people talk about Indivisible, and all I can think of is Valkyrie Profile

>Played it first on PS1, but only half-way through, because the second disk was part 1 in Japanese instead of part 2 in English
>Played it again years later on PSP Lenneth hardest difficulty, and never beat the extra end game dungeon
>Never played Silmeria on PS2 because I had stopped playing vidya during that period of my life
>Everywhere I look people want to gauge me on prices for it
>That fucking DS game no one remembers
>Valkyrie Profile is a dead series and will never have another game

Fuck it. All Indivisible does for me remind me of how much I'd rather just go and replay Valkyrie Profile. Time to dig out the old PSP from underneath the bed.

You say that like they don't care about Valkyrie Profile, they've been sitting on the game idea for a while.
