I know absolutely nothing about this game aside from that it's a Blizzard product, that character looks cute, but if she's not going to be cute in game then I give even less of a shit.

Zeah it's dumb PR move. Artists behind are most likely indifferent. I mean it's not like they'd get angry because of cut in game content that they worked on. That's part of the job. Sometimes assets are not used or removed. In the end of the day they still get paid.
