Started playing SFV.. Lost every match online. Are some people just not made for fighters?

I want to die.
>>
What controller and character?
>>
It's just a hard genre to get into

I picked up SF5 as my first fighter too and I've played about 30 hours and I'm still only about 1500-2000 LP in the ultra bronze range. Maybe look up some basic tutorials and it's a good idea to stick to one character you like instead of spreading yourself too thin

you'll definitely lose a lot in the beginning
>>
>>332283979
An actual baby beat the game OP. You must be incredibly shitty.
>>
You gotta practice. How long have you been playing fightan gaem?

Learn your fundamentals mastering that 60% combo doesn't do shit if you can't land it in the first place
>>
>>332283979
This is normal if you new to fighters. It may take you months before you git gud. Don't give up if you want to be good!
>>
Standard DS4 and Rashid.

I will practice some more... Figured I might lose 50 before I even get a chance. Didn't think I would suck this much though. The matches aren't even close against rookies...

Why the fuck are the servers shitting themselves when the maintenance is in 10 hours? Fucking Capcom.

Is the Qanba Q1 a good fightstick for PC? Costs half as much as the Hori ones and seems to be more or less the same.
>>

>>
>>332284256
Sorry, 5 hours.
>>
>>332284235
Rashid is hard for beginners. Might aswell wait for the patch later today that teaches you some basic shit.
>>
>>332284269
Yes it's good, I have it and it's really great for starting. It doesn't look like really high quality, but it's absolutely worth the 80$/€. And even if you want good parts later you can just unscrew the box and switch whatever you want to switch, from buttons to stick, maybe even the PCB, but don't quote me on this one.
>>
>>332284235

Just means they know things you don't. Good news is anyone can learn those things.

You should stick to training mode, casual matches, maybe some battle lounge, until you are more comfortable with the fundamentals. Dont head straight into ranked, youll get owned.
>>
>>332284568

not like it really matters. points are meaningless to beginners and you can't go below 0. rookie players are just flat out terrible in general and it doesn't matter if you're playing them in ranked, casual, lobbies or what not.
>>
The best way to learn effectively and fast is to watch pros and play with them if you can. You can learn to play properly by jumping in blindly but you will take way more time than someone who watched a shitton of good matches (the "good" is an important part) and played with good people
>>
>>332284327
The patch is today? I thought they said wednesday
>>
>>332284997
Divided in two parts.
Today we get all the single player content, rematch on ranked and 8-man lobbies.
The 30th we get Alex and the FM shop. The Zenny shop won't be available for a while.
>>
>>332283979
Just keep trying. I'm awful as well but you've gotta start someone. SF5 is my first fightan game and I think I've only managed to win 3 casual matches so far. Your attitude is what's most important.
>>
>>332283979
No one is "made for fighters", some people just put in more work than others.
If you wanna git gud then play more, there's no secrets, only practice.
>>
Practice executions
Learn from your mistakes
Anticipate your opponent's moves and punish them
Learn your character's AAs
Learn your character's basic confirm combos
>>
How do I git gud with Chun?
>>
>>332285371
anticipate is more advanced. Beginners should just think of AAing and punish mistakes first.

One thing you should consider OP is looking up certain things online.

Googling/Youtube Searching "Rashid Bread and Butter Combos" will show you the basic chains of moves people do, along with showing the inputs that they require.

Then, once you have a minor understanding of those basic things, go onto the Capcom Fighters Network and look for the highest ranked Rashid player in the world, and watch his most recent replays.
Take note of how he defends, where he tries to position himself when the enemy is playing defensive, etc.

As for Rashid himself, using his V-Skill makes you jump, but you can also do a special Eagle Spike right out of it using a kick.
LK puts you close to where you started but HK can put you on the opposite side of the enemy, leading to you hitting them in the direction that they're not blocking [called a cross-up].
Additionally, shooting his Tornado with HK and then pressing Down+V-Skill will let you roll across the screen extremely fast.
During the roll if you hit any kick button you can get a deceptively fast kick that knocks enemies up.
If they're in the corner of the screen, this can lead to a HP Spinning Mixer for a nice bit of damage.

I'm new to the genre too but I slipped right into Rashid because he can pull off some good mindgames.
I'm still just in Super Bronze though, and points-wise, that's not very far from Rookie.

Alright I feel like commenting on this.
I think that the way peoples first experience with fighting games these days is to go online ranked is unnatural and kinda wrong.

Its not how people used to approach the games back then, when most either played against friends at home or in arcades.
Skill levels online are so different and so many are so obsessed with winning that the beginners wont take anything from it.

I think anybody who is new should emulate that old approach. Play against friends or other beginners, either offline or online. Dont get addicted to that stupid ranked grind.
There are tons of ircs, discords and forums for matchmaking.
Playing against better players is important, but so is playing against those who are on your level.

>Are people just trolling when they say they cant win a single match?

Some of it is hyperbole some of it just people having absolutely no clue what they're doing. What a lot of people in the fgc don't understand is that even if you played just a couple of fg casually in your lifetime you still have a basic understanding of a certain number of common rules that will translate from game to game, while complete newbies will basically start from zero and play like complete retards and will need a lot of time to practice just to understand things that will bring them to a basic level. That's why extensive tutorials are so important.
>>
It's crazy that people can actually think this game is difficult.

SFV is the easiest iteration of SF in the last... forever as far as i can remember. Know how to play the metagame and it's easy as shit. This game is entirely about rushing down and maintaining constant pressure. If you relent on the pressure and let them dictate the rhythm of the match, you've already lost.

Pick a fighter and stick with him. Everyone seems to use ken, ryu, and cammy a lot so people naturally learn what can hurt them. Learn to play rashid or dhalsim. I couldn't win with ryu, after two weeks with rashid I'm 1100 LP.

Learn to block and control the air. If you're playing a jumper or someone aggressive punish them for it. That's easy with rashid. Most people from 0-1000 play like this.

USF4 was my first fighting game, bought it after EVO 2015.

100 hours in I had a 30-40% winrate, as there were still many other scrubs. Just blocking the most obvious slow attacks and using a slow attack in return WILL win you some games at least, its not rocket science.

"Dont get hit, then hit back when your enemy cant do anything" is the most basic concept in countless game genres.

Sure, SF is not exactly easy but to say it's difficult and complicated? Seriously, I can't even think of many games that are easier to get into than SF.

SF has always been known for having a relatively slow style of gameplay. By default, if you have a brain, you should be able to pick up on it pretty easily. especially with how much tutorials and guides that are available on the internet. It's easier to get into SF than ever before. SF is the normie casual of fighting games.

okay scratch that "SF" thing, what I meant was traditional 2D fighters. You know, the ones with inputs etc

Those basics are still pretty difficult for total beginners. I'm trying to be fair to the newcomers here, it IS pretty difficult when you start out.

Late but chuns kinda hard for beginners. Not much exploits scrubs can spam effienctly well to 1k. You have to play honestly with normals and nuetral game. >>332295664
Killer Instinct, MKX are some of the more recent ones that are very easy to get into. Rising Thunder is also pretty easy before it died.

Marvel can be very overwhelming for newcomers. Especially at a mid-high level. There's a lot of things going on that you have to mentally account for. But once you get used to it, figure out a decent team (or just pick up something, Doom, Vergil), it's very fun. There are a lot of resources you can look for to learn how to play it though.

>>332295982
That's only because SF is entry level fighting game. Whenever normies think of fighting games, what do you think they think of? The only fighting game they probably even know of is Street fighter. Yeah I guess if you compare it to fucking CoD or Fallout, it's pretty "difficult".

Why is this acceptable?

Not that guy, but Tekken is fast as fuck when played properly.

Tekken player here, its really not.

Faster than games like SC for sure but not a fast game by any means.
>>
>>332297432
You're just shit. You probably have poor execution, sub-optimal combos, and aren't confident in your gameplay. The gooks and nips are crazy fast at this game which is also why they're so fucking dominant. Eat shit

>Tekken player here

I don't believe you. I have never come across a single person on /v/ who even understands the fundamentals of Tekken.

>>332297395
If one person likes fang, your statement would be false.

Which dipshit thought it was a good idea to increase Ryu's damage? That's like one of the most retarded things you can do to buff a character.
>>
>>332297743
I still remember when beta 2, 3 and 4 were out, everyone complained that Ryu was absolute shit
This post makes me laugh

There are better was to buff a character, than go >hurr let's just make him to stupid damage
>>
>>332298076
Ryu shitters will always complain unless Ryu is undisputed best characters.
>>
>>332298231

You're right, it isn't. However, the games have never had decent tutorials and many of the systems are utterly elliptical unless you actually look them up online.

The series has such a low player retention rate in the West because newbies hop online and see a Mishima hovercrafting around the arena at lightspeed and immediately say 'fuck it'.

>>332298526
True. He was pretty good in sfxt though
>>
>>332298526
But that guy was complaining against Ryu, he's the complete opposite of a ryu player.

Also fuck you, I just started learning ryu and I like him so far, I'm not a shitter
