The Japanese version has the retail patch so it's fine but the people who're stopping the download to make it the international English version are getting the press ng-1 patch.
So if your game is in Japanese it's as difficult as it's supposed to be but if the game's on Xbox 1 in English then it's NG-1 easy mode.

It's not the review copy that's easier, it's the original Japanese version. The Japanese are ONLY good at puzzle and strategy games, everything else is significantly easier in Japan.
Enemies have far more health in US Bayou Billy than they do in JP Mad City. Battletoads is significantly easier for Japan. Contra Hard Corps has a health meter for the Japanese version. Yes, the Japanese are casuals.
