Are there any must-have mods/patches for a first playthrough of this game?
I would like to know as well, I managed to make it work, but it's like 24 fps fucking hell
Maybe graphics mods but apart from that the game is fine as it is. I mean, unless you are developmentally impaired and can't wrap your head around pressing two buttons at a time.
>>332166140
no. just accept the game is older now and have a good time.
>>332166561
>>332166590
No fan patches or anything? I'm was so sure I saw something mentioned in another Gothic thread once.
>>332166140
>>332166220
Stay away from any of the "le hd texture" packs. They're mostly pic related and often buggy as fuck. Just try to unlock 60 fps in both games and play the vanilla.
>tfw there will never be another great Gothic game
>>332166650
dx11 patch is out for gothic2 dunno about 1. but i wouldnt recommend it because you still can have running issues
>>332166730
Well alright I guess I'll just jump right in then. I already played quite a bit of 2/3 ages ago and finished Risen recentlyon fucking 360, so I don't think I'll have problems overall jankiness and outdated controls.
>start game
>dev/publisher logos play
>screen goes black, nothing happens
>gotta close the game via task manager
What do?
>>332167429
Well ok, turns out the game was still running behind that black background, and I'm able to actually start the game. Opening cutscene plays (only audio, black screen) and then this is what the game looks like for me.
Fuck.
Oh my fuck, Gothic thread.
Quick, post your

It's not even because they can't, it's just that modern graphics are so alienating.
The atmosphere in games like Gothic was absolutely great and I can get back to Gothic 1 and still feel sucked into the world.
Modern games just try to hard to be close to photorealism.

Feels good to be a modder.
>>332166730
Risen was the closest we could get. I loved the way combat with shields worked in that game.
Also, did anyone feel like learning German when playing this game?
Because I get this feeling every time I play it. Especially G2.
>>332168648
No.Because I am GermanBut I kinda felt like learning Russian when I played Pathologic
>>332168743
That's ironic. Considering that Pathologic is unplayable mess.
>>332167803
try forcing v-sync
most games do that for me on my laptop unless they have v-sync on
>>332166140
People will tell you the dx11 renderer. But they probably haven't played the whole game with it. It's a buggy piece of shit in 1 and only slightly better in 2, so stay away from it.
Just get something for widescreen and higher resolution.
>>332166730
Thanks for ruining my day
At least Risen 1 was fun... though 2 sucked badly

Why?

>>332170308
>>332170287
My guess is it's a project to remake G1 in 2's engine.
>>332168236
That's because the devs focus too much on the graphics instead of trying to make it atmospheric. And that way we get half assed games with solid graphics but no real good atmosphere and system requirements out of my ass
>>332170425
>I have no idea what I'm talking about, but my choice of words is impeccable
>>332166220
It's capped if I remember correctly
>>332170490
You can have good graphics that don't give you the sense of a good atmosphere fitting the setting
>>332170663
You're talking out of your ass, publishers of AAA titles invest heavily in things that make game good on screenshots, and they have plenty of atmosphere.
What they're missing is substance, variety of content, and mechanics and scenarios that make you feel like you're a part of the world. Visuals are not the problem.
>>332170376
Yep, did it a year ago, it's almost finished but I don't have the motivation to fix all the things I missed, would be pretty cool I guess. Also sadly is that it wouldn't be a complete remake because the barrier and telekinesis don't work in Gothic II. But so far, you can already finish Gothic I in Gothic II.
>>332171973
Damn, anon. I'm sure you can find some help at ADGD threads in here. It looks amazing!
>>332170148
Well, it did something. The opening cutscene now has video and the game looks like this
>>332172314
the only other thing I can think of is different compatibility options, or fan patches, if they exist. sorry.
>>332172385
What helped me is launcing the game in Win XP compability mode. Try doing that.
>>332172180
Thanks! If I'm not able to fix it myself, I'll look into them. ;D
>>332166730

I think it's the first Gothic since I see no snow where New Camp was before.
alright cunts which guild do i join on the first run, im thinking thieves or mages but my friend told me mages would make me hate the game the first time through.

>having a first run of G2 in 2016
You have no idea how jelly I am right now.
>which guild
That depends on what you like.
Mercenaries look cool, they were my first playthrough since there were a couple of familiar faces from G1. Other than that - Paladins often seemed like loathsome (albeit powerful) cunts to me, so there's also that. Judging from your post, I'd say you should go Merc.
>mages
The game will feel completely different. At first you suck (low mana pool) but then you become Beliar incarnate. Their entry quest pre-NotR was PAIN. I wouldn't recommend it as your first playthrough either.
And Thieves guild isn't really a faction. More of a chain of lucrative quests. They won't progress the story.
>>332174409
Thieves isn't a real guild, you can still join the other ones while being a thief.
Joining mages is kinda weird, you are sometimes forced to play as a righteous "muh innos" dude, when the character is mostly a funny asshole.
Mages are kinda hard in the beginning, but op in later game, but you get no mana reg, so you need shitloads of mana potions.
Play dragonhunter if you want to be an asshole badass that fucks shit up with big swords.
Play paladin if you want to be an asshole badass that fucks shit up with normals swords.
All routes are fun and definately worth replaying.
Just do the quests for all routes to get max ep and then decide which you liked the most.

i found a farmer and he told me about some bullshit and told me to pick some beets. my character skin color darkened slightly. when i play again i have to go find the beets. I was told to kill everything i possibly can when i can, so that "when something something the zone resets" i'll have more shit to kill. soooo. also i can take anything outside of towns or houses but not inside i guess? i only have a stick and there are horrendous bees nearby. can't wait to die to those bad boys.
this pansy character cannot wield what appears to be a rapier? in my inventory. this game really starts you off as the weakest fag on earth.
Just started playing Risen, reached the Bandit Camp.
Seems pretty interesting, feel just like Gothic 2.
>>332175915
Risen is a lot like Gothic 2 in how the game progresses. It's also a pretty nice game overall, just don't expect a good ending.
>>332175915
>>332175998
risen drops off hard in quality after chapter one
characters are lame and uninteresting
story is shit
but combat system (melee) is really nice
>>332174409
Magic will suck all money out of you. I would go with Paladins.
>>332177631
yeah, magic is pussies!
>>332166220
There's a patch which uncaps it or caps it to 60fps I think. Shouldn't be hard to find and it makes the game way more enjoyable.
I'm interested in this as well. I don't want graphics or gameplay mods or anything like that, but as a fairly early 3D ARPG I'm sure the camera and controls might have some issues.
>>332171973
Oh boy, I hope you get some help. You could make some sort of like the AW7 patch for Postal 2, where you seamlessly switch from the end of G1 to the start of G2.
