Orks are the most numerous and violent of all sentient beings, they also have a very special connection that may or may not come into play.

If the warp reflects the material universe, than it only makes sense for there to be vast expanses of emptyness, not to mention how the rest of the warp does have physical features that correlate with real space. The milky way could also just be one of the only (or few) places where there's sentiance, or where there was ever psychic wars going on disturbing the warp.

The Harrowing is supposed to be a fun bit of lore, one of the (at the time) many bits that demonstrated that there is actually actually more to the fuck huge galaxy than humans, orks, elfs, and robots. It was also meant to display the power that Dark Age humans had at their disposal, as well as example some of the threats they may have to deal with with that power.
And if you were so sphincter shattered by the mere mention, you'd know that the current Assassins codex talks about the same kind of Dark Age goodies the Imperium has in hiding, while keeping the same vagueness. But f course, you don't want to hear that. You want to focus on one tiny point that no one mentioned (except you) so you could shove your shit-covered opinion into the thread.

At any rate it's quite boring, particularly for a xenos race. You could use daemons belonging to the Chaos gods or the other daemons/lifeforms which supposedly inhabit the Warp and get the same result as the above.

All of that stuff directly describes the Warp, and it doesn't even slightly justify Lovecraftian at all. The most basic, single thing to point out is

Lovecraft was acclaimed for making his shit come off as so plausible that readers could only wonder if there was some truth to it. He played off of physics and medical science, as in Reanimator, or current legends, as with his Egypt stuff.
But most importantly, it immediately invalidates anything Lovecraftian at all with

As in, a protected mind is fine, as 40k already does in spades with warp shennanigans. There was no protection from Lovecraftian horrors, and escape was always temporary. Mortals didn't do mortal things to beat the impossible.
I'm not going to be one of those guys who goes "Well I read Lovecraft and you clearly don't," but I am tired of hearing people say this and that is lovecraftian because something is horrorifying or matches one thing from one of his hundreds of stories. "Lovecraftian" is a style, not a design. One I thoroughly enjoy.Also, I highly recommend The Music of Erich Zann. Easily my favorite Lovecraft story, especially since it was long before he hit stride with the Outer God shennanigans.

I really want Eternal Crusade to be good. The first 10 or so hours were a blast, but once the novelty of it being 40K wore off, I stopped having fun nearly instantly. There's just something to it that's missing that Space Marine's multiplayer had to make it so much fun.
