I distinctly remembet buying Two Worlds 1 and the guy at the counter going "You know this game looks cool but Ill warn you it's really shitty."
Being the 17 year old me I thought PFFFF fuck you guy you probably just have shit taste and I bought it anyway.
The minute I got it home I put it in the 360 played it for about an hour then took the 30 minute bus ride back to the store to return it and eat humble shit pie because it was fucking terrible.

It was the coolest sounding thing ever. An RPG that you could play online with other people as well as just by yourself was almost unheard of. I remember being so hyped. Then everything about it was awful. The camera controls were unusable, the enemies near the start of the game were insultingly easy one minute and ass tearingly hard the next, it was filled with bugs even inside an hour i managed to get textures to diappear completely from some parts of the environment and various bits of text just overlapped and escaped their boxes. I did manage to find a person to play with online too, I remember being level 3 or something and this guy was level 270 Polak with armour that looked like a shitty metal CD cover who then proceeded to kill all the NPCs he could find.

I've played it on PC at launch and I remember it being confusing, way too big and way too imba.
Then I made a few stat distributions and oh fuck.
I maxed out Earth and Reflect, nothing could hurt me. I remember taunting unkillable NPCs because their own weapons could kill them.
Then I levelled Wind and killed everything, resurrected it and killed it again doubling the EXP. I remember having around 60 poison darts stacked with reduced mana cost. I remember drowning because my boots were too heavy.
I remember that the PC swung the shortsword like a lightsaber.

Two Worlds is great. You can get the villain to aggro the town folk in the first few minutes. The townspeople will beat him to death, causing the end cutscene to play.

I remember that Two Worlds 1 had weird old english dialogue and then when Two Worlds 2 came along they just replaced it with american english.
There was even an npc who talked like the npcs in the first game and when you talk to him your character tells him to talk like a normal person.
But yeah, the games were the most janky pieces of shit ever, the only good thing was that in the second one there was sailing, you could play instruments and it had a cool magic systemeven though I played as a warrior fml.

We've had MMOs start to dabble in this, but none of them want to fully commit to replacing the Skinner Box with an actual RPG.
