I play Harvest Moon games over actual farming simulators because it just feels more fun. I've tried actual farming before, I grew up on one, and it's never interested me. The more "cutsey" or whatever version of it is more appealing.
The dating sim aspects are a big plus, too. Rune Factory also has decent-ish combat.
