I got DMC: Definitive Edition, and I'm loving it so far. Love the world, style, and I find it easier to control.

Hi! i'm an old DMC fan since DMC1, the reason why people hate this game is because, it is a reboot that didn't take the legacy of the series, you cannot jump cancel pretty well in the game, that makes dmc3 and 4 really crazy. you are playing the definitive edition of the game which is better than the original.

DmC is really nearly as horrible as people make it out to be. Compared to a lot of other action games that have come out recently it's actually decent. The problem is that it's not remotely similar to DMC3 and 4 with very different combat mechanics. Not only that but Tameem was very vocal in his sheer hatred of the old games. It's one thing to like your version of the series more but he was practically touting his reboot was basically saying his game was blatantly superior to the older games.
So basically when people when people complained it was completely different the response was "lmao fuck you losers" so a lot of people have a pretty big hateboner for the game.

Each DMC adds something to the series that stays.
DmC: Devil may cry removed most of what was loved from the previous games and added God of War style combat and the terrible color coded enemies. The character of Dante in this game was the worst one so far. Worse than the no personality Dante of DMC2.
DmC: Devil may Cry felt nothing like a DMC game and to add fuel to the fire the Developer Ninja Theory's CEO Tameem openly Mocked and alienated the original fans long before release and as well as added things to the game to poke fun at the fans.
Even worse the media coverage of the game before and after the game launched was paid reviewers proclaiming the fans didn't buy the game because "they simply had a problem with Dantes hair" when in all actuality it was everything Tameem was saying and doing to the fans as well as Dante being a absolute trash character compared to the other 4 dantes.
In short. The Gameplay vastly pales in comparison to the other 4 DMC games and Tameem ruined any chance of any old fans of finding the game good. Even though the game is alright. Just not a good DMC.

The implication seems to be that NinjaTheory got information about the review score before it was actually released, primarily through the usual canoodling between developers/publishers and games journalists, only to make it accidentally apparent and having to quickly backtrack. No, because the half assed some of that shit. Lock-on is literally just lock-on, there's no directional input like in the originals, so launcher is still a dedicated button. Color coded enemies can now be hit with the opposite type weapon, but they deal shit damage and no stun, so you're better off still using the same type weapons. The horrible writing and characters still exist, all they really did was add two cutscenes that doesn't add shit to the plot, and remove Vergil's stupid ass fedora. The bosses are still shit, with the exception of Bob Barbas, and the weapons are still uninspired, as well as feeling 'samey'.
It's better than the vanilla, sure, but it still maintains a lot of the problems from the original, only less awful.
OP just watch this guy's review, he has the best review for DMC out of any other review videos I've seen so far. He does a good job pointing out EVERYTHING WRONG with DMC, he really knows what he is talking about plus it's a funny video in general.

DMC2 and DMC4 both suffered from a chaotic development cycle.
With DMC2, Capcom completely snubbed Kamiya (he didn't even know the game was being worked on) and the higher-ups wanted the game to be "bigger" so they made the levels gigantic (which is one of the biggest reasons the game is so broken compared to 1). The director was in over their head so Itsuno stepped in at the last minute to polish what he could. The game was a mess but at least it had some good ideas that made their way into DMC3 (Twosome Time, Aerial Rave, Bloody Palace).
With DMC4, it was originally PS3 exclusive, but then Capcom decided it should also be on 360, so they had to completely scrap the engine they were using and start again with a multiplat focus. But Capcom didn't give the team extra development time to compensate, so they had to rush the game out the door. So the level-design is half-baked and Dante's levels are a rehash of Nero's. Despite all that, it still has the best core gameplay in the series, style switching is wonderful.
If 5 had taken 4's mechanics and made a full game out of it, it would have been perfect. THAT is why DmC is such a slap in the face, the series was so close to being perfect but Capcom decided to outsource it to an incompetent western dev so they could reboot it for no reason.

It was true in the original game. Rebellion was deflected from red and blue enemies, and guns did nothing to them. The thing about color coded enemies being bad is that you couldn't actually use different weapons against them, and you're forced to go from 8 weapons to 2.
