I finished ds and bb and I still can see that some mechanics are just shit.
Then there's the typical soulsfag shouting like a retard that the game is not hard at all then tells people they couldn't handle the difficulty and to git gud which literally contradicts itself.

My two cents:
It's a justification of the difficulty in certain parts. It does the world a shitton of good for the mechanics to emphasise its oppressive nature and makes the interplay between triumph and the pointless, destructive and nihilistic nature of the narrative all the more powerful.
I don't think it justifies game design like BB's vial system or dark souls 2's hollowing, though. Gitting gud shouldn't be even harder for worse players, that seems silly.
