I just don't get this, at a conceptual level

Haptic feedback is ideal for tracking, not buttons. Why not put buttons on it and leave the "sticks" as trackpads that you could place virtually anywhere. Want to only use 1? Then only use one, and a second one isn't permanently obscuring the screen

This isn't just stupid. It's downright retarded

>>331780091
I'm mostly worried about the size. It looks not a whole lot bigger than a gameboy micro. Considering your hands will cover up the left and right portions of the screen, what you're left with as a viewing area isn't that big. Plus no buttons. What the fuck? Touch screen buttons are shit for anything except some casual trash
>>
>>331781583
You are retarded. Gameplay will happen in the middle portion. The stuff close to the sticks is for touch buttons.

>>
>>331781890
>Gameplay will happen in the middle portion
What is the point of having additional screen real estate if you can't use it for anything useful? This was the biggest problem with the DS/3DS/Wii U split screen paradigm. Aside from the very, very rare game that utilized it in a meaningful fashion, it was mostly relegated to display menu-related data that would normally display simply by hitting the start button, which is not a huge hindrance. It's a bigger burden to have to look down and back up and constantly readjust your gaze.

If for the most part nothing useful will ever appear in the side areas, then they may as well not be there.

even if all this elliptical shit is not completely fake, rendering "wasted" pixels has been a non-issue since ~2000.

all you have to do is render a black silhouette at min z-depth, then draw the scene behind it.
Early Z-reject throws away all subsequent pixel draw requests that would end up behind the mask.

They would be like Sony and Microsoft then.

The problem is that Nintendo now is automatically related to "gimmick" and "children games", those are the first words that pop in mind when Nintendo is mentioned. They would have to use the BEST GRAPHICS (which never were their focus to begin with) and surpass the other companies in every single stage to be able to compete with them.

Even Reggie said so. Nintendo can't survive if they do the same things as the others, they are "the company that does things differently" and everyone expects them to be so.

Nintendo would be just fine - the reason they're up shit creek is due to not having hardware that third parties can easily develop for.

Look at it this way: out of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, who has the strongest IPs? And so, if most third party titles could be played on all three consoles, do you think everyday gamers would rather have the console that plays Mario, or the console that plays Knack?

Maybe, but these people do want COD/FIFA - perhaps even exclusively. For instance, I guarantee a good portion of PS4/XBone owners don't have a single first party title in their library.

IPs are Nintendo's strongest asset, if only because they are universally recognised by people who play and those who don't.

With the Wii, Nintendo required most gamers to buy a) a Wii for first party games and b) a PS3/360 to access the rest of the gaming world. This shit won't fly a second time - people want a most-games-for-your-money kinda deal, and aren't going to buy two or more consoles just to play an extra handful of games.

Being successful isn't the point. The point is that the Wii taught fans which group Nintendo will target between its dedicated fans, and people with money. They targeted motion control grandmas and made money from it due to the Wii. If the same thing happens here, and mobile games swarm the NX, that's it. Its the end of them appealing to people that want games like "a real metroid" or stuff. They will pave over those people to lay the foundation of a company that makes mobile games the most.

Cell phones, mobile games, mobile cell phone games, and touchscreens are what's popular in Japan and Nintendo is primarily a Japanese company.

They want to appeal to those audiences. And to children.

The old men running Nintendo don't understand modern technology, and they don't want to try. They also don't understand Western desires, and they don't want to learn about that either.

This is why companies don't like leaks. People make assumptions of leaks and then ruins the hype.

For instance, this "controller", people are now hating on the NX because of this prototype. All of /v/ thinks they know exactly what the NX is based on this image. You have absolutely no idea what this is, what it does, and what the rest of the NX is. You're basing your opinions off of this "leak" of a "controller"

Nothing anyone does or says can hurt their fanbase. Ever since people like that fucking prick Observer and Reggie came around, Nintendo fans have changed. They're no longer an easy mark or an easy troll. They no longer get excited when people troll them.

They don't even care about the mainstream video game media. They simply follow Nintendo sites. They're like Apple now. And Nintendo fans are totally impervious to trolling.

Xbox kids also seem to ignore all trolling.

And dont tell me physical buttons are much better than digital, theyre the same shit once you get used to the placement. The only buttons that doesnt digitially work well are the analogue and shoulder buttons, which Nintendo covered. my theory is that the controller is like some sort of touch pad, different games have different amount of buttons, when you load the controller, it "load" the buttons you have to click, you click on the area of the touch screen and its like you touched the button.

the up/down/left/right are still the old method, because how the hell would they be touch?

Even asphalt gets pulverized with how much shit goes on with roads. Plus all glass can scratch a lot easier, given its texture, which hinders LED visibility, to say nothing of the maintenance and upkeep of replacing all the fucking damage glass, LEDs, and other components that goes with it every X amount of years from wear and tear.

A technology like this will cost a lot of money. Anyone realizes this? A system with the power of a PS4 or more, a screen with flexible, haptic feedback screen and with the visual fidelity of a phone, the connectivity between all the parts.

I can easily see the console itself being $250 by itself. The controller itself should easily surpass $150.

Add in whatever charges Nintendo has for the hardware and for profit margins, and it's a $500 system.
>>
>>331797219

Shit with minimal/vibrational feedback and flat screens isn't the future at all. Tactus Technology or something similar is what you need for proper flatscreen to replace a traditional controller, and even then it will be strictly worse for sometime (it would be squishy).

>>331802132
Q: How do I protect my panels from freezing?

A: Freeze protection is not needed in all locations. However, it only takes one freeze to ruin a solar panel. Two methods are commonly used:

A drainback system allows the panels to drain when the pump shuts off. The drainback method provides freeze protection as well as overheat protection. A drainback arrangement may require an additional tank for the water in the panels to drain back to. A drainback system requires more installation care to ensure the piping is sloped properly to the tank. Every inch of piping from the panel down must be properly sloped to ensure the water will gravity flow back down. An improper installation could result in a freeze break. Fewer components are needed to install a drainback system compared to a closed loop glycol system.

Pressurized glycol systems rely on a lower freezing point in the liquid to keep the panel and piping from freezing. To protect systems with glycol, yearly testing should be performed on the pH and freeze protection level of the fluid.

That sounds like a fuckton of maintenance and completely impractical.
>>
>>331802062
Solar panels built into the roadway. LED markers for obstacles in the road around blind turns (keeping you from hitting a stalled car/stupid deer/etc), the panels would be capable of using some of the energy they generate to heat themselves and melt ice and snow on the road, reprogrammable lane markers so they don't have to be repainted.

Theoretically, if installed on all roadways it would exceed the United States' current electricity demands.

>>331801868
I don't think that would be a problem since they would either be too close together or the panels would be sealed off by the glass.

You niggas aren't looking at the biggest problem- the problem is it's solar powered, one of the most unreliable forms of conversational energy in the world.
>>331801951
From what I hear, it wouldn't be any more of a problem or frequency replacing regular asphalt roads. I think I read replacing the panels are supposed to be cheaper and easier though. As I said, I just can't see it working at current because it seems rather unnecessary, but who knows? Maybe it's look better in a few years once they find more ways to make it better.

You know, our powered roads, how are we going to give them some power?
>>
>>331802721
Some people argue against it for the same reason. Asphalt companies would essentially cease to be. No more lane painters. Smaller crews for road work. And road construction would no longer be a job for brainless neanderthals and would require a working brain.

>>331802769
As I said earlier in this thread, current estimates are 4.4 million dollars per mile of road. at approximately 3,980,817 miles of road in the US, it comes out to about 17 trillion dollars. It's a nice thought experiment and could be nice for a personal driveway or the parking lot of some particularly eco-conscious company, but for an entire road system it is entirely unfeasible, especially for a country as large as the US.
