I never quite understood the whole Human-Reaper thing in Mass Effect.

Just why?

Why did the Reapers want to create one, why did they need human slushie DNA, why is a giant skeletal giant better than fly space bugs?

>Because humans are special. HUMANS BE DA MAN

Basically this I remember hearing some hidden voices of Harbinger going through the races and stating why they are or aren't fit. Only humans were deemed a "viable possibility". It was on Youtube as apart of some indoctrination theory video that I can't find anymore. I remember one of the lines was

>TURIANS: Inviable possibility, you are considered..... too primitive

Someone (whom /v/ probably hates, so I'm not gonna post it) laid out in detail why humans are actually stupidly inferior to Asari in the goddamn main plot point of ME2.

>Why did the Reapers want to create one,
I like to think before they went full retard, the human Reaper was going to do what Sovereign tried to do. Then they released Arrival and completely ruined that possibility. Really sucks how Arrival ruined both ME1 and ME2.

>why did they need human slushie DNA
Because Reapers are partly organic and that organic part is derived from the species that is harvested.

>why is a giant skeletal giant better than fly space bugs?
Possibly the internal structure of the Reaper. The outer hull of all Reapers is apparently based upon Harbinger's design.

You're probably wondering how a giddy little cowboy like me ended up here. That's right, that's me. Director! Let's rewind to the beginning!

Aww, there's baby me! Gosh, I was so cute, with my tiny cowboy hat and boots. Hey, WAIT A SECOND! This is way to far back. Director, come on, let's move on ahead.

*movie forwards to when John Marston was graduating cowboy school*

Ah, perfect. Ever since I was small, I've always wanted to be a cowboy. Well, on that day, I got my wish granted. Little did I know, being a cowboy isn't all fun and games as many make it out to be.

ME1 is one of the last solid things Bioware put together. The writing is decent but also feels kind of like its pulled together from 1/3 generic bioware structure, 1/3 babylon 5 and 1/3 star control 2.

My favourite thing about the game is that the tone and aesthetic of classic science-fiction is absolutely nailed all throughout the first game. It looks, sounds and generally feels like pulp science-fiction should. The sequels go full JJ Abrams on everything but ME1 really gets it right.

And call me absolutely out of my mind but I think it's the only one that plays well out of the whole series.

They aren't better or anything. There wasn't supposed to be anything special about the human reaper. The reapers just pick up whatever species they like the most each cycle and use it to make one new reaper to build up their ranks, then ME3 came out and retconned this. I can only guess they wanted their giant space battle an fuck if they were going to make a different design for each individual reaper. Would have been cool getting reapers with different designs knowing they are the shape of species that were in your situation and lost in previous cycles. kind of like your enemy going to battle all dressed up in the corpses of his enemies.

I'm absolutely fine with people enjoying AAA and simple games.
But this "article" is deprived from any critical thinking and soley based on his own imagination.
That's all fun and well. But trying to sell it as a fact is either a troll or a shill.

ME had a great concept, that unfortunately was only announced as a trilogy, never layouted, or written as such. I think many /v/-people would be ok with the simplification of the games, if the concepts and plotlines were anywhere consistent as its major selling poont promised.

He kind of has a point, that everyone looks at the ending in a vacuum. Also it is based of the visuals alone rather than the choice made.

yes they dropped the ball with the final cutscene but I think it was more of the implications your choices had for the Galaxy than a right in that moment kind of thing.

not saying they did a good job, but people definitely over reacted.

>>331748773
Your "joke" doesn't work, try again.

>>
I really thought the entire series came together at the end to teach a harsh lesson about trust.

Like, your favorite devs spend YEARS telling you that your choices are important and will affect the final outcome of the story, and you trust they're going to deliver, I mean ou brace yourself for there only being like 2 or 3 different endings with slight variations of each, but you believe that at least there's going to be SOME effect based on your decisions.

Then the ME3 ending just blind sides you out of nowhere and it turns out oyur decisions didn't matter even a little bit and you're left angry and even confused, all because you let them build up your trust over half a decade only to smash it down within a couple of minutes.

No game series has ever tough as harsh a life lesson as Mass Effect. Trust leads to dissapointment.

Hence the "it doesn't get used".
They came out of nowhere, because they were hinted at but once before (pic), which was then retconned into a stupid idea (derelict reaper).

They are an unused deus ex machina, because they created the reapers, thus know their functioning and could thus, if not entirely disable, at least be a huge step to defeating the reapers.
And to top it off, they were introduced in an optional DLC.

sea monster things that have a stronger version of indoctrination that they can exert more strongly to the point of killing you, or release.

they used it to subjugate the other species of their home world, have them build ships and then just went around enslaving worlds for fun.

their slaves kept making robots to be their slaves and the robots kept having uprisings. Their abilities didn't work on robots so they made an AI to figure out the problem and stop it, it started making reapers and somehow killed almost all of them. A handful survive, and have been alive since the time of the first cycle.
they can kill reapers using a feedback of indoctrination , but it tires them out and thus they are still at risk of being overwhelmed and just hide from the reapers every cycle.

That doesnt make them a deus ex. not having 3 games of build up isnt the same thing as comming from nowhere in full firce as a first appearance. If the end of the DLC was the first introduction to them then maybe, but it isnt.

> thus know their functioning and could thus, if not entirely disable, at least be a huge step to defeating the reapers.

How so? They merely explain that they were created with a strange mishap in their programming (which kinda makes no sense) and make the reapers much LESS mysterious.

Actually and I will admit I could be wrong but I'm almost certain that the Reapers targeted earth so heavily solely because of Shepard. Shepard basically pissed off Harbringer so much that he got a hard on for fucking up humanity. It's actually impressive that a single man pissed in the cereal of a millions of years old sentient machine eldritch abomination so much that he effectively doomed his species even harder then normal.

It really showed during the battle with the reaper on Ranoch.

"Shepard. Harbringer speaks of you."

That's pretty damn good going from "Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding."
To that.

The worst part of the ending is that you could improve it drastically by just changing the sequence it happens.
>Have harbinger taunt you as you approach the beam
>Get hit, enter beam as standard
>Immediately get transported to catalyst part
>Argue with starchild
>If you pick destroy/refuse, cut to white and you wake up where you normally get transported with the beam
>pick control/synthesis and you get a harbinger quote as you see Shepard "sacrifice himself"
>This adds indoctrination as a valid plot point and lets you have a final confrontation with harbinger in a battle of the minds
>Go meet Anderson/TIM as usual
>After confrontation have chat with Anderson, sit down, Anderson dies, Shepard has a moment of peace looking out the window while horribly wounded
>Weapon fires instead of Hackett contacting you about "something went wrong".

Suddenly you have a more satisfying ending without removing anything because "muh artistic integrity" and without having to add anything more. Doesnt fix the plotholes or many other failings but eh.

I disagree. I enjoyed sovereigns dialogue and wished the reapers stayed as unknowable eldritch machine gods from outside of the Galaxy. I wish we never learned why they do what they do. With that in mind I enjoy the idea of a single man actually being noticed and pissing off one of them. The idea that a creature that barely perceives organics as sentient would get so fixated and angry about one is neat to me.

That being said they ruined the reapers after ME1 and Harbringers personal involvement and hate of Shepard shows their downfall into mediocrity.

Also What school did you fucking go to where the bullies talked like that? Sovereign as a high school bully would be
