Finally! A smart game for smart gamers!
>>
>>331578420

Only true gamers get this reference :^)
>>
This game really made me question my stances on racism and slavery. I used to think they were good, but after playing this game I'm not so sure.
>>
How fucking stupid are you? You seriously had trouble with this?

The scroll represents the law and order of Columbia and it's troubled history. That's three ideas.
The key represents the idea that Columbia is the key for the world, in it lays the dormant powers to affect alternate dimensions in an unprencedented way.
The sword represents the will of the Columbian people to fight, to fight for their rights, to fight for what they believe in, to fight for their society to not fall.

The bell on the left represents the scroll. Draco was the first legislator of Athens in Ancient Greece
D-R-A-C-O. That's 5 letters. Ring the left bell five times.

The bell on the middle represents the key. Now, when you think of multiverse, who do you think of? Hugh Everett, obviously.

"BUT ANON", you might say, "HUGH EVERETT WAS BORN IN 1930, HIS THEORY WAS ONLY PUT FORWARD IN 1957, THAT IS WAY AFTER THE EVENTS OF THE GAME"

Foolish anon. Don't you see? Think for one second, who was responsible for the popularity of the multiverse theory? That's right. Bryce Seligman DEWITT! DEWITT. The developers want you to notice that connection.

E-V-E-R-E-T-T. That's 7 letters. Ring the middle bell seven times.

The bell on the right represents the sword. When you think of warriors, only one name can come to mind.

L-E-O-N-I-D-A-S. That's 8 letters. Ring the right bell eight times.

5-7-8. The puzzle is solved. Ken Levine is a brilliant man, I expected no less of him.

It's a code to get into a fancy rocketship door. It would be like if someone gave you a 4-digit code to a keypad. It's security.

>>
>>331579313
I just assumed it was there to get you accustomed to interacting with things.
>>
>>331579630
It's just a password to get in.

I know it's kinda dumb, but it's perfectly reasonable. If I want you to go to open my safe, I'm going to give you the code.
>>
This wasn't a puzzle and the game was never about how "racism is totally bad, like, whoa". Cease this reckless memery.
>>
>>331579995
Remember the part later in the game where you find an actual 4-digit code to a keypad? And the game inputs it automatically instead of trusting you to press 4 buttons?
>>
>>331578420
Code was literally impossible when I heard it was 5 random bell tolls when there was only 3 bells. That's like 40 million combinations and I just had to give up.
>>
>>331580351
BioShock 1, you had to find the code and remember it.

BioShock 2, you had to find it, and the game remembered it, but you still had to enter it. I found this kinda flawed, because I would look at the code somewhere without realizing it, find the lock, and wonder why it was just giving me the code.
>>
>>331579630
It's a clue that shows that this is the 122nd or 123rd rescue attempt, I forget which.
>>
>>331580335
Yeah, everyone and their mother knows that racism is bad. Infinite didn't bother with making that its real point.

Infinite was about how the anti-racists, the social justice warriors, were just as bad if not worse once they got their hands on some guns.

Name one wrong thing with Sprinting in shooters (so long as base movement speed isn't a crawl)
>>
>>331580843

It wasn't really about that, either. It was more about just taking Civil War era americana and twisting it to its extreme. The fact that everyone's a self-serving asshole, no matter what ideal they hide behind, was more of a side point.
>>
>>331581007
This bothers me so much. I've got no source, but weren't the founders supposed to be depicted in a much darker light? And apparently they toned it down for some reason?

>>331581195
Nothing.
>>
>>331581264
>Civil War era americana
You aren't American, are you?
>>
>>331581289
They toned it down because, like I said, the point wasn't that racism was bad. They didn't really want to cross the white-guilt line or anything, so they never showed Founders abusing blacks or anything.
>>
>>331581315

Yes... why?
>>
>>331581468
I think they were more concerned with the wibbey-wobbly-timey-wimey rubbish in the third act
>>
>>331581547

>>

>Yeah, everyone and their mother knows that racism is bad

>>
>>331581617

Sure, but the entire point of Columbia is to be a society-in-a-bottle with the values of pre-Civil War America. It's why that one fraternity lodge has murals of Lincoln as the Devil and John Wilkes Booth as a saint.
>>
>>331581778
Fair point
>>
>>331581778
No, it's supposed to be turn-of-the-century America on steroids.
>>
>>331581734
Finkton is where the plot started meandering. Way too much time is spent on the whole airship-gunsmith-weapons nonsense without anything being accomplished, then the game just writes itself into a corner twice and creates a million plotholes by jumping between universes.

The preachy way of saying it is awful and the Daisy retcon is horrible, but I think it's a valid story to tell nonetheless.

>>
>>331583573
Well, Firewatch is (mainly) about loneliness, Transistor about conformity, and many other great games can be boiled down to very simple concepts.

Accepting others can be one.

>>331583657
>> race is pseudoscience

Many arguments that Comstock makes about its racism (how the Irish/Negro should be thankful to serve the Whitey, white man's burden, miscegenation, phrenology (see my pic related in previous post, you see one in the game), and the big victim complex of Columbia) are actually pretty modern and used by neonazis all around the world, with slight variations.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, imagine if there was a Deus Ex video where you're given a 4 digit code to get into a locked room then made a satirical video about it, ridiculing the makers for making a ridiculously easy puzzle.
