What are some good first person shooter games that feature a nice single player campaign that doesn't just feel like something tacked on after the multiplayer was the main focus, and don't rely on "open world" design or feature a crafting or xp system or anything like that? Shops are fine if we're talking Bioshock 1 or similar games.

I just want a nice simple FPS singleplayer experience.

How's FEAR 2 and F3AR?
>>
>>331429752

The first Halo game (Combat Evolved) has a decent but short campaign. You can play it for the SP only and get ~10 hours from it.

And yes the first one is available for PC
>>
>>331430243
Fear 2 is okay too. F3AR is extremely modernized and very forgettable.

I have been playing Halo 1 a lot, I need to buy a new copy of Halo 2 and Halo Reach after someone stole them from me, but I plan on replaying the whole series up to Reach, but fuck 343i's shit.

Fear 2 is pretty good.

What's the best way to play CE campaign on PC today in widescreen?
>>
>>331429752
Pretty much anything before Half Life and a few after.

If you want something more recent, I highly recommend Call of Juarez Gunslinger (it has an XP and level up, but it's not too annoying).
>>
>>331430243
I played Fuh-Tree-Ar with a friend and while it was kind of fun, we found the whole thing kind of bland and forgettable.
>>
Why aren't there any new games coming out that actually have good single player experiences like these old games?
>>
>>331433425
The main audience for shooters are dudebros and esports, neither of whom give a shit about single-player.
>>
>>331433425
Multiplayer sells better since people rarely care about singleplayer experiences in shooters anymore.
>>
Hard Reset maybe, there's a complete or revamp edition coming soon I think.

I only felt that the movement was a little too slow.

>>331433425
uh what about 99% of indie games
or every open world game
or every turn based game
>>
>>331433425
Because kids are stupid and only care about multiplayer.

I wonder if we'll ever get another golden age of singleplayer FPS games.
>>
>>331430243
FEAR 2 is okay but very deeply flawed, and has the worst DLC I've ever spent money on. If you play it, don't ever bother using that fire gun; there are only two places you get ammo for it in the whole game.

that game was kind of average but i thought the enemies were way too bullet spongy and lack of manual saving was bs.
the weapons felt kinda weak and the weapon switching didn't really work in the midst of battle cause you can't easily distinguish between the modes.

Are Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate worth playing?

What are they exactly?
>>
>>331434939
Hell no. The gameplay feels like it falls flat, there's not challenge anywhere because you get free healthkits and EVE and ammo every five seconds from Elizabeth.

Two weapon limit is complete ass, the plasmids are all contrived and unorginal compared to what we got in 1 and 2. Though the bullet shield, one that lifted enemies into the air, and the tentacle grab were cool. The charm one should have just been a hack tool again.

And the two weapon limit sucked ass. At least they brought back having a complete arsenal at all times in Burial At Sea.

I just realized I never finished Burial At Sea at all. Should I even bother going back to play it?

Both Riddick games are fucking great. You can download Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and you get Escape from Butcher Bay remastered with it.

They're severely underrated.
>>
>>331434939

It starts quite strong, but about halfway in everything starts to slip.

And I mean everything. Level design. Story. Gameplay. World. It all just starts to go to shit or go completely stale.

The only thing Infinite is good for is boosting the portfolio of the art director.

forgettable - a damp squib, especially for what was hailed as game of a generation prior to release.

Okay, hard mode /v/. Good, singleplayer oriented FPS games released after 2012.
>>
>>331429752
I really enjoyed Rage for this. It sort of advertised itself as an open world game but it isn't really. It has very linear levels and is a great shooter with decent mechanics.

literally not a single redeeming feature in it

2009, aside from regening health, and TNO/TOB were great.

>>
>>331429752
I kinda like the new shadow warrior.
They couldn't resist adding a dumb perk system for some reason, but other than that it's breddy gud.
Also Wolfenstein the new order has a pretty sick campaign. Same reservation though: there's a stupid perk system for no other reason that it's fashionable.
>>
>>331434939
Gameplay wise it just doesn't find it's identity. Based on trailers it seems the "intended experience" is to run around very fast while gunning and spamming superpowers, preferable while using those rail things to move around faster.

Except ingame it just doesn't work. Enemies are very accurate even when you're fast so really the optimal strategy is mostly taking cover.
Also the powers are way too similar
>AoE damage
>AoE stun
>AoE stun with damage
>>
>>331429752
Singularity was bretty gud, I'm not sure if it's a ps3 exclusive though. Deus Ex: HR is fun but guns are kinda ass, you're better off sneaking, STALKER CoP or SoC, Metro 2033 and Last Light are both ace as well. Far Cry: Blood Dragon if you're into 80's aesthetic
>>
>>331441910
>tno/tob
regenerating health
sprint
linear as FUCK levels
one or two enemies trickling in at a time
cover shootan
lean
ironsights
fucking horrible "collectables" that are placed every single time you walk off the beaten path to make the levels feel slightly less linear just kidding you're immediately courted back onto the railroad
20 minute long cutscene segments where you do not kill a single enemy
literal rail shooter segments
its bioshock infinite with a new coat of paint

>b-but it has health kits haha its just like brutal doom!!!!
figuratively, theoretically and literally put a gun in your mouth at the same time
>>
>>331434939
yes but not a good shooter, /v/ will tell you it's shit because some e celeb made a video about it though
>>
>>331442570

Somehow I was completely sure that /v/ doesn't like BI for some reason. I personally like the game. Fun, challenging and pretty. Not a masterpiece, but a good singleplayer FPS released after 2012.

This man has a point though. >>331442258

What game is this from?
>>
>>331434939
No. Gunplay is trash, vigor balance is shit, enemies are retarded fodder, something 2K specifically said they didn't want to do 10 years ago, weapon selection is limited and terribly balanced, and they totally abandoned gene tonics and ADAM for a horribly balanced gear system.

Don't bother spending more than $10 on it.
>>
>>331438787
The new Shadow Warrior is pretty decent.
>>
>>331442845
>B:I
>Challenging

It's the easiest game 2K has ever made. Bucking Broncos --> carbine or magnum headshots makes even 1999 mode absolutely cake, and abusing Charge and shield upgrades means you never die unless you really, really fuck up.
>>
>>331442490
>TNO/TOB
>regenerating health
Did you even play the games?
>>
>>331443603
>THE GAME IS EASY IF YOU CHEESE IT LOL

well done kiddo, now go drink your chocolate milk
>>
>>331443792
>Aiming for headshots and using the few good vigors is cheesing the game.

The game's so horribly balanced that it takes no real effort at all to "break" it. At least in BS1 and 2 you had to use some gene tonic strategy to cheese it. BS:I is so awful than doing anything besides being an absolute retards makes it abundantly apparent the game was designed for autistic twelve-year-olds.

>b-but it has health kits haha its just like brutal doom!!!!

>>
>>331444142
>these mental gymnastics to justify using easy strats

Just admit you're not good at games buckeroo, there's no shame in that
>>
>>331443782
you regenerate 20 health 1 second after taking damage
that is what health regen is you moron
>>
>>331444434
You regenerate up to 20hp if you're below 20. Regenerating health mechanic is what you find in Halo or CoD.
>>
>>331444660
>You regenerate up to 20hp if you're below 20.
Reminds me of Max Payne, actually.
>>
>>331444307
M8 using tonics and shooting people in the dome is common fucking sense. It's not like I'm going about creating godlike gene tonic combinations like you could in BS1 or 2. That being said:
>Thinks BS:I is challenging
>Tells other people they're bad at videogames.
I think this all might go right over your head.
>>
>>331429752
Stalker.
>>
>>331430243
FEAR 2 is good and F3AR is okay if you enjoy coop.
>>
>>331444660
lmao have you even played the game
on the hardest difficulty your health regenerates by 20s
if you have 61 hp it will round up to 80hp a few seconds later you moron
if you pick up a 5hp upgrade and wait a second it will regenerate 20hp
do i need to open up the fucking game and record this?
>>
>>331442992
>nothing wrong with leaning in games you dumb fuck
yeah cover shooting absolutely belongs in a "throwback" or "classic" first person shooter.
this isn't a rainbow six game you moron
>>
>>331446774
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is widely considered to be the best game in the series (or was, before TNO anyway) and it sort of has lean. Sort of.
