Even if they spend the full 400 USD on a GPU, that only gets them the equivalent of a 980. A 980 alone can't even achieve 60FPS and 4k consistently. And that's without ANY components in addition, whatsoever. Nevermind the fact that you need a decent processor to keep up with that GPU, which would cost around 200USD or so.

We just barely got consoles that regularly do 1080p, and most of the time it's not 60fps. 4k is literally 4 times the rendering power, most fucking PCs can't do 4k without seriously struggling. Sony knows a 4k console would be too expensive right now.

Playing games rendered in higher resolution than 1080p on 1080p TV downsamples the frame to 1080p. This makes for great AA. Just downsample any game on PC and you'll see. Games look so much better.
