Recently replayed the whole series. The only thing sr2 did better was story and characterisation. The gameplay was awful and vastly and improved in 3 and 4. 2 is also the shittiest port I've ever subjected my pc to.

Loads more content, better rewards, ability to pick random shit up and beat people to death with it, better activities, better story.
3 was a half-finished half-assed clusterfuck of dumb ideas and taking the the series' own quirky humor way way too far into lowest common denominator territory.
