I actually like the Crystal Cave area and I hope we'll get to traverse areas in very weird ways.

Demon Ruins weren't great either.

CC looks cool, has a neat gimmick and doesn't overstay its welcome. It's a good little interlude before the fight with Seathe.

Is there a way to attack it in some kind of vulnerable location? I need to deal large quantities of damage.

I love Crystal Cave as well, but I think my copy of Dark Souls is fucked on PC with it. If I have 60 FPS on, I get major drops to sometimes 5 FPS in that area, but if I switch it to 30 FPS mode it stays at a steady 30 FPS. No idea what causes this. Once I start fighting Seath I'm fine and can change it back, but it's a little annoying having to hit backspace everytime I get to that area. Anyone know what causes it?

Depends. Dark Souls gives you a way to do it relatively quickly if you have a lot of prism stones however on your first playthrough you're unlikely to have that many which does create a hassle. Because of this area I always buy a bunch of stones now whenever i find the merchant who sells them in these games.

Design is fine, layout maybe, but there is just a couple of times where you actually have to go balls-deep in the water and it doesn't affect you as much as it did in previous games, it's not nearly "all the time", and both mages and crawlers are easy to kill and to dodge, the only hard enemy dispatch was right before the last bonfire near the boss and that's only because there is a shitload of them and they aggro all at once usually, everything else is a joke.

Usually you have 10-20 just by looting. Also this area is littered with messages, especially if you play online (the only true way). I had way more trouble killing flying shits than navigating, they seriously punished being pure melee in the previous games, haven't seen this in das2.

Yea again, it's not really about difficulty as much as it's about how annoying it is to have your speed reduced and be powerless to do anything about it. That will always be frustrating in any game, even in small amounts. Then if you do die to an ogre or some such bullshit then you have to do it all again.

There's also a few points where you are getting fired on by multiple far off targets and you need to either stop and snipe them or slowly make your way behind cover or risk being hit since there are multiple shots being fired and melee enemies you'll have to fight. Again, it's not that hard but it's slow going which is frustrating. It might be forgiven if the area were actually cool looking but it's really just weird and confusing lore/placement wise, has an awful boss and extremely bad layout. It's fine if you like it dude but you should realize why it gets hate.
