You just need to know when to queue so you wait 5-10 minutes at most instead of hours. Well that's here on JP anyway, maybe frontlines are dead over at NA.
I only ever do like one ex roulette a week and the rest gets capped naturally by the week's end from midas/frontline/trial roulettes. I only rush if there's something I want to buy before that week's raiding.

Most of the issues with 1.0 were engine issues. I really think the overall design principals of the game were better than what we have now. If you wanted to go do a primal you put together a party and then rode out and fought it.
If you wanted to go and gather you just went and did it, no need to fuck around waiting for unspoiled nodes or go do stupid aetherical reduction stuff.
If you wanted to craft you just did it. No need to worry about capping your redscrips for the week or anything.

Relic was from 2.0. It's level 50 and you did the whole quest chain and got a zodiac weapon (zeta weapon)
Anima weapons are 3.0. Level 60 weapons that right now the cap is ilevel 210 but will be updated throughout 3.0. If you had a zeta weapon from 2.0 you could skip the crystal collecting part from fates, if not no big deal its pretty easy.
MCH had no relic in 2.0 so they made it so you can turn in any zeta to skip that part of the quest. Honestly just work on the quest at a slow pace, no need to rush since its still il210 and the last part is really grindy. First two parts are easy.

There was a fatigue system where after fighting for about an hour, your character level and class level EXP rate was reduced by half. They said this was done to prevent botting exploits, but all it did was gate actual players who were paying a subscription to encourage them to play less and less.
Gathering was a whole fucking mess, botany was a RNG fest minigame on its own and it was so bad that they even made fun of it in Heavensward with those new Golden Saucer minigames botany/mining minigames as a throwback to 1.0
The combat was definitely slower but had some depth to it, but it lacked the depth that made XI combat unique and it ended up being a pain in the ass especially since TP regenerated way too slow and the awful server ticks really made you feel the dullness.
The whole game was designed to played with a controller, they never once gave thought to keyboard+mouse users. Everything was managed through a master menu and a god awful software mouse that lagged.

Look, to be fair, all of this shit was not there when I actually played it. I did play the game's beta and it was total wank. 1.20 onwards was great. That was when Yoshida had stepped in. He then started implementing ideas that Tanaka had already designed, and the game was great.
Yeah, the areas were huge and copy pasted. That is definitely a huge stuff up on their part. I tink it was partly an engine issues. The game handled memory very poorly. For example it could only display 40 players/objects at a time. Not great when players are in a city populated by hundreds.
Gathering wasn't really RNG. You just couldn't see what you were hitting. Once you knew where everything was it was all good. I don't think they were making fun of it in HW with the mining/botany minigame in the gold saucer. If you have a look all of the arcade games you can play there are timing based. It wasn't very hard for them to implement it and that is why they went for it.
Gathering, despite the lag, was far better than it is in 3.0.

All looting of items require 3 dialogues to pick up, selling items is done one by one with confirmation dialogues.
There's no drag and drop so equipping gear is done exclusively through macros and tedium.
When you die there's not even a release pop-up button or anything, you have to open the menu and scroll down about 10 options and hit "return".
The vast majority of the XP you'll gain while playing is gained through leves. You can only do 8 Battleleves every 48 hours, meaning the rest of the time you're playing you're either grinding or leveling non-combat professions.
Every time you enter a combat "stance" your character needs to stop moving completely. You don't regenerate health in combat stance, so this isn't really optional.
Abilities and skills have no range indicators in game, including the radius on AOE spells
Hell even a few of the tooltips in game were still in Japanese.
The whole game was a huge clusterfuck in game design, the game engine issues only made it worse (this is what happens when you use FFXIII's engine to make a damn MMO)

Items went into a loot window that would eventually go into your inventory automatically if you ignored it. It was designed so items wouldn't automatically clog your inventory up. Yes, everything was a bit slow and laggy when it came to the inventory.
The "tedium" of macro was a simple /equip "Item Name" line. It didn't take a hell of a lot of time, and you weren't getting new equipment all the time so while it was a bit more cumbersome than 2.0's automated gearsets, it wasn't that dreadful.
The vast majority of your experience was gained by partying up with players and camping monster spawns. Players would carefully pull large amounts of enemies and kill them for experience chain bonuses. I made a lot of friends this way.
It was a bit annoying that there were no range indicators, but not everything in 2.0 has them either.
I legit never saw tool tip in Japanese, ever. I played from 1.20 all the way to its closure and never ever saw one. All the other issues you mentioned were incredibly minor. For example stopping when taking your weapon out, is that really a big deal? I don't think so, personally.

All I'm expected to do is top people off and occasionally toss rocks and dots on stuff when nobody needs healing. Plus, I leave mechanics to the DPS and just mindlessly sit somewhere in the arena and spam cure while playing the floor is lava.
