were it my recommendation, all of them are must plays, even if half of them suck ass, simply for the fact that it broadens your horizons and gives you just that much more experience with evaluating games
The only ones I'd say you wouldn't be remiss in skipping are the chocobo dungeon crawlers and the wii crystal chronicles games, as well as the MMOs if you already know you don't like MMOs.

Put 5 in must-play. FF5 was amazing. Don't care how exploitable the jobs are, you can choose other just as interesting jobs to spice shit up. Those ones were made specifically for babies who couldn't beat Exdeath without gill toss. Casual filters.

FFV and FFT are the only must plays. Most others vary widely in reception.
I personally like XII, but it has flaws and I can see why others might dislike it.
I like them all but 2 and I haven't played 3. 13 was kind of weak. I still had some fun with it but I bought it cheaply and probably won't play it again anytime soon. I only played 4 a couple years ago and liked it but I think it's overrated a bit. I'm only saying this because people consider it the best when I think it's good but not the best. I personally like 5, 6, 7, 9, and 12 a lot and everything else is good too, even 8 and 10. Though 8 has some design flaws so it might be nostalgia. Also Tactics is great. I was hoping FF15 would have a darker story like tactics but I guess it won't. I hope it's like 9 at least where there's a mix of comedy and some dark moments.

When will this meme die? FF8 is a solid fucking game with lovable characters and fun gameplay. Junction system was fun to fuck around with, too, even if you could get OP.

Squall is supposed to be edgy. No one takes his edginess seriously, anyways. They all make fun of how ridiculous he is, and he grows out of it eventually, too. At least to some extent.
Also it has the best soundtrack of the series, don't try to prove me wrong. Because you fucking can't. The Extreme is and will always be one of the best final boss themes of all time

I can't think of a better job system than in FF5's Maybe Bravely Default, as it added the brave and default system and some new jobs, but even that was mired down by a lack of atb.

Every FF game is a must play exept VIII, the onlines and XIII, this last one being a must avoid.
With that said, III is more or less irrelevant because V and X-2 did their job systems A LOT better.
