This is a very specific request, but are there any good games with cool representations of nuclear power?
Not nuclear weapons, though those are cool too.

I'm talking about game that in some way involve generating energy from nuclear power.
Nuclear power is cool as fuck

I wish Factorio would have nuclear power (though I'm sure there's a mod)

Nuclear plants don't blow up, idiot
Do you think a nuke plant is just seconds away from becoming a bomb?
>>
>>331233016
I didn't say that they blow up.
>>
>>331232897
I definitely feel you, I really want Factorio to have nuclear power plants, it feels weird to have a completely automated factory run on coal or oil power.

There is a mod for it, though, it's called Uranium Power
>>
>>331232524
Nuke plants rarely blow up, they're not nuke bombs. I think most people are thinking it's a gigantic sitting nuke bomb. But no. The worst disasters occur when there's maybe a very small explosion, but the worst damage comes from the radiation leaking into the atmosphere. Think of it like slowly letting the air out of a balloon or when you get the perfect stealth fart and feel it slowly draining from your asshole. Those are the situations that cause extreme damage.

Why would people get pissed off at living next to a nuclear plant?

I think I've watched this https://youtu.be/dS3WvKKSpKI documentary 3 or 4 times.

Nuclear power sounds cool until you watch a documentary and learn that it's actually just boiling water.
>>
>>331235193
yeah, nothing is magic
except maybe aviation
>>
>>331235193
As far as I know, solar power is the only kind where the goal isn't just to turn a giant wheel.
>>
>>331235193
Yeah, I didn't know this until recently but even then there are different kinds of nuclear power and I don't know if all of them are like that. The primary energy used to boil the water comes from fission though with splitting atoms so I wonder if there's a way to more directly harness that energy rather than just using it to cause the water to produce the energy.

And is fusion the same? I know we can't do it yet but with fusion would the goal also be to essentially boil water?
>>
>>331235769
yup, pretty much all fuel based energy sources have one purpose only: generate heat

only ones that don't use induction to generate electricity are solar power and batteries
>>
>>331235769
There's no way to turn the heat into electricity that's as efficient and easy, there's probably more direct methods but they're probably more expensive than they're worth.
When you take a step back, Nuclear power stations are incredibly simple things. The only thing that makes them incredibly expensive/complicated is the precautions we take to make sure we don't have a Chernobyl incident happening every other day.
>>
>>331235769
Also yes, pretty much all nuclear power we have right now just heats up water to make a turbine go round and generate electricity. There's different methods to heat the water, or to get the water flowing, or how to use the fuel, ect. but they all follow the same basic principle of using Fission to make water get hot.
>>
>>331236520
which is also one of the reasons why fusion would be flat out superior in every way to fission
a fusion plant malfuction results in a molten plant at worst and absolutely nothing else
>>
>>331235769
We can do fusion
It's just isn't economically viable so we only have research reactors
>>
>>331237468
it is highly possible that fusion is not possible at the scale we are trying to do it at, and that it is only possible at the scale of a star making it totally useless
>>
>>331233390
because people have a very poor understanding of the dangers of nuclear technology, you fucking dipshit
>>
>>331237468
Fusion does produce radioactivity
Plants can't be removed for like 50-100 years
Also there might be problems with fuel like getting Helium3, but it depends on what kind of fusion you want to do

how do the NPP split the atoms? AND keep it contained?
>>
>>331233630
They're starting to open up the sky. They're starting to reach down through, and it feels like we're living in that split second of a car crash, and time is slowing down
>>
>>331238595
there's enough fuel on earth for deuterium/tritium reactions to last about a million years
and the radioactive waste products of a fusion plant have a half life of less than a decade, not to big a problem

also fusion is a hell of a lot easier to shut down than fission given all you need to do is shut down the fuel supply
>>
>>331238869
iirc it depends on what kind of reactor you have
I am just a chemistry student that had two physic classes so I am unsure how much of this is correct:
You place fuel rods into the reactor and then remove the safety rods
You might also have non radioactive fuel rods and then just send in one rod that turns the fuel rods into radioactive material which then decays and produces heat
They are in some metal casing or whatever and you need to keep the temperature low with a lot of water so it doesn't melt

D T reactions are the least efficient oness
>>
Touhou
>>
Wasn't there a natural nuclear reactor in France?
>>
>>331239797
they are the least efficient ones sure but given the enormous energy potential of a fusion plant even the least efficient form would be a dramatic improvement over quite literally every single currently available form of power generation
>>
>>331239965
It was found by french scientists in Africa
>>331239797
>>331239609
Actually there isn't a lot of Tritium and it's half life is only 12 years
So you have to produce it first

Sub Commander is still in pretty early development so there's not much to do yet, but it's like FTL in a shitty Soviet-era nuclear submarine that breaks easily and managing the nuclear reactor and dealing with nuclear accidents in the sub is a major part of it. It's pretty fun until you run out of things to do.

It's free.
