Anybody use gsync/freesync?

Do games run silky smooth as they claim>

i never knew screen tearing was a thing my entire life. never once noticed it until i spent an hour reading in depth and watching slow motion videos of people pointing it out.

been playing computer games since mid 90s. the only thing i thought vsync did was make your mouse input more smooth but caused input delay or something so i always had it off too.

now with gsync i STILL dont notice a difference.
>>
what the hell is gsync?
>>
>>331232114
as a disclaimer, i also had no idea wtf anti aliasing did until i put my face 1 inch from my monitor when my cousin wouldnt stfu about "jaggies"
>>
my friend has freesync, swears by it

probably just buyers remorse though, those monitors are expensive
>>
It eliminates screen tearing, but you'll still notice framerate drops. For me, it would hardly be useful since I always use vsync to cap my framerate to 30 or 60 fps depending on how demanding the game is. For example, if a game doesn't always run at 60 fps, I'll cap it at 30 fps (half refresh vsync). I absolutely can't stand inconsistent framerate.

i didnt notice any difference mainly because screen tearing is for autists.

however going from 60hz to 144hz was mind blowing, the gsync was just a bonus (that i dont notice?)
>>

does it make frame rate drops less noticeable? I don't really notice screen tearing but I'm getting a 21:9 34 inch 3440x1440 freesync monitor in the near future.
>>
I would love a compatible monitor but I'm a mega jew when it comes to monitors. There's just so many compromises you need to make if you want a good price. Can't have a 144hz montior with good colors, can't have an IPS without worse input lag, G-sync with a TN panel, etc. It's such a mess.

is like forbidden knowledge, one you see it you cant be unseen, one of those cases where ignorant is bliss

Pretty much this, exactly.

XB270HU in the house.

Don't see how it would. It might somewhat eliminate stuttering caused by dropped frames or bad frame pacing that usually comes with unlocked framerate.
>>
>>331233508
Screen tearing in 60hz monitors is pretty bad without v-sync, I dont know how someone wouldn't notice unless they were playing at 30fps.

>can't have an IPS without worse input lag, G-sync with a TN panel, etc. It's such a mess.
On top of that, there's poor quality control (backlight bleeding, uneven brightness, extreme IPS glow, vertical banding, dead pixels etc.). This shit plagues even the most high end monitors.
>>
G sync is pretty good if your going for 120hz but if your pc is shit don't even think about it. From my experience it does help quit a bit since If I leave it off I start to see annoying lag because my frame are dropping. Usually I drop like 10 frames so if it bothers you like it did to me then ya.
>>
gsync/freesync is meme tech

Here's a better idea: Put the money you would spend on these gimmick monitors towards a better GPU so you can hit your refresh rate.
>>
>>331234568
This. Gsync is for people who don't care about spending $700-1000 and already have two of the best GPUs on the market and plan to upgrade when the next generation of cards come out. If you can't maintain 60, 120 or 144 fps in all of your games, just don't bother unless you're rich.
>>
>>331234843
Why would you ever upgrade your monitor then? I'm considering getting a 3440x1440 Ultrawide along with a 980 ti but I know that the 980 ti won't achieve 60fps in some games. Should I just stick with my shitty 24 inch 1080p monitor instead?
>>
>>331235660
He literally just described your scenario, which is the only scenario that could be argued as reasonable.

Question is, why would you want to play a game at sub 60 FPS, let alone 60 FPS?
>>
>>331236015
My situation is that I have a shit gpu right now (770) and want to upgrade. However, if I upgrade my monitor along with it then upgrading my GPU won't mean shit. Therefore I should just never upgrade my monitor.
>>
It makes a huge difference on high end machines, and nearly none on low end. Its barely noticeable below 60 fps, but if your pc can take advantage of a 144 hz monitor, it is huge

That being said, it is still not worth the giant price.

I do, it's fucking amazing except for the fact that most emulators don't seem to work with it, which was the main reason I bought a monitor.
>>
>tfw no ultrawide 1440p monitor with G-Sync that's less than £1000

Why can't I just be rich for once?
