Who fucking knows, but Walking sims and "artsy" games certainly aren't art, because the artistic aspect of a game should come from what it can do with the gameplay. Something like 999 wouldn't work in any other medium and the way it uses the 2 screens of the ds is pretty unique. I don't think it's art, but its certainly closer than Gone Home or Dear Esther

Just not all/few games would really be considered some kind of creative masterpiece or anything. Stuff like CoD or any other bland, cash centered only franchise, is still art but is kind of just a surface level, minimal effort sort of thing. Something like Zelda, Smash Bros, etc, is closer to what you would say is in general, "art" but there's no clear cut way to tell because we will never know what the devs were thinking when making a game. Being cynical about devs doesn't mean you've proven that they didn't care about the creative aspects of a game, nor does calling me some kind of pretentious tumblr tier poster.

A game is literally MADE of art, of course these are the main features. Have you ever played a game with JUST game play? Please, without artistic aspects, a game is quite literally nothing. Some games are just less art/creativity centered than others.
