Yes. Magic users are hot garbage in general. The only exception is Leo who is the only magic user to come with bases that aren't total shit, and his growths as a Royal lets him keep up, though he is noticeably more shit than Ryoma, Xander, and Takumi.

If you stick with Elise, and get her to a high level, she turns into an incredibly powerful magic damage dealer. Leo is almost as strong, but doesn't require as much commitment. Odin and Nyx are ok, but not great.

They forgot to put in a reason to use pure magic because a third of the classes can pitch hit it while having other advantages. Staves too. Conquest gets a mage that is better as a samurai but his kid is a decent mage. Elise has super high magic growth for a ranged option.
