DW8E shits all over SW4E because in DW you can play ronin, officers, governors, region governors and finally the faction leader.
In SW you can only play as faction leaders and you have to play custom (IE-No historical events) to play as your own created character and even then you are just subbing out your character for another faction leader.
SW4E fucking sucks ass just get DW since it has more options, characters and rp events.

I don't know anything about Japanese but even I'm having a hard time trying to understand why no matter what the dialogue box says, it always sounds like the character is saying "techsho, itch doctaree" after they've defeated an officer

Well yeah, that's always a thing with localized Warriors games. The localization gives them colourful and varied officer defeat quotes while in the Japanese version they all say the same "Enemy officer defeated" line. It really stands out when there's no English VA.

That's because that lline is the same for everyone in Japanese, with some very minimal variation in punctuation or phrase tense. The English makes up new quotes for variety.

You either have sword, sword+musket, twin swords, spear or naginata to use for your characters to make them unique or paste them one of the SW cast weapons.

Haven't played SW4E yet, but usually there are only a handful of unique battles in it, like Okehazama, Kawanakajima, Honnoji and Sekigahara. If you know your Sengoku history well, then you know which faction and scenario to play get those battles.

When you picked a faction did you pick the ones that had 'Recommended' next to the clan name?
I think that determines whether or not that specific clan at that scenario has unique events.
Unless you picked Genesis mode in which everyone is scrambled and random so there's none of the 'historical' moments.
Is there still an option to just let the game defend territories for you or do you have to participate in defenses?
I remember being lazy about defense in DW5E and only participating in invasions

Some of the characters got their moveset condensed into Hyper types. The victims include: Kiyomasa and Ginchiyo, who got changed from Normal, and Masamune who got changed from Charge and lost the last attack of his C3.
Don't really care for Kiyomasa, and Masamune barely changed, but I'm really salty about Ginchiyo since her old moveset was really solid.

I know this is an old post but you CAN put your custom characters in historical mode. You hit triangle and can put it in the region before choosing a clan. It'll say custom characters then you can add to the region of your choice.
Also in custom mode you can put your guy under a daimyo, and you don't have to control the daimyo in battle.
The lack of officer mode is ok, desu. It's not really a huge deal.
