See the issue is the WII U version if still inferior because it gets none of the new maps, just the characters and none of the new enhancements like character switching. It's alright if you want to play it on Wii U but the 3DS version is pretty good (at least on New 3DS, OG 3DS owners on suicide watch).

It's honestly pretty damn good on it, I thought it was gonna be shit but I played a demo and gamestop today while picking up Senran Kagura. I'm definitely picking that version up, the character switching and the owl teleporting is fucking perfect. Framerate is smooth unless you put on 3D, that shit must have been tacked on last minute.

You can buy those characters sometime in the summer instead of buying the 3ds game but they don't count as a part of the season pass so you have to buy them separately. Plus you get none of the new maps or anything from the 3DS version, just weapons and characters.
