Was Fei even really that powerful, I mean on foot.
Yeah he can shoot some Kamehamehas and blow up some robots with his fists, but that's only mid tier level stuff.
His gear is where he's really powerful.

It doesn't really get showcased in the game as the playable character very well but when Fei basically merges back with Id and all his other fucking locked away personalities he could easily take down gears on foot.
Id could do it and so could Grahf, I see no reason why Fei near the end of the game wouldn't be able to take down almost anything in the game except Deus on foot.

There are like game mechanics for this you know. Towards the end of the game you could always disembark from your gears and fight on foot. Fei might have decent damage output on foot but he's still got fairly low max-HP for being a squishly little human.
He can take down robots, he's actually be able to do that for most of the game, I was fighting robots around Kislev on foot back in the first disc for example.
Sure he's got a directly line to God because he's the contact but that doesn't really emerge in physically strength to any unimaginable extent. It's not until you get in your gear when you can really tap into that sort of power.
I'll take the game's mechanical version of Fei's strength over whatever version of Fei's post-merge strength you imagined it should theoretically be.

Yeah, but doing it in a gear would be even easier.
And it's not like the Dragon on that island is the most powerful enemy in the game or anything, the only reason people find it somewhat difficult is because you're not allowed gears while you're there so people who haven't kept up with their deathblows might have some difficulty.
It's just when it comes to video game characters, killing a dragon with your fists and laser beams isn't really all that impressive a feat in the grand scheme of things.
