The great debate.

This just proves further that everyone here is underage these days, none knows these games.

2 was always less satisfying to me as a kid because you were collecting boring orbs instead of freeing dragons and dragon eggs. I always looked forward to the next rescued dragon, even if it was just some THANK YOU FOR RELEASING ME asshole or a palette swap with the same hatching animation as I saw half an hour ago.

It's okay anon there there
>>
3 had the best levels and soundtrack
i dont give a shit if you didnt like the minigames
>>
>>330862580
I know them and I played them. I just dont care enough to reply this post
>>
one felt like you were exploring hostile and dangerous worlds and oozed atmosphere while the other 2 and 3 felt like a cartoon meant for toddlers, though they had their own pros
>>
>>330862676

This, 2 and 1 defined my childhood to some degree, 3 was good, but it just didn't feel quite the same.

Spyro 2 is the best

I like 3 the best and nobody can stop me!

fuck you guy. like 2 better!

any other answer is guaranteed to be from some underage kiddo born in the mid to late 90s
>>
2 was the best one. 3 had too much tacked on gameplay styles. 1 has great atmosphere, but feels light on content compared to 2 and 3.
>>
>>330862308
Year of the Dragon would be the best if not for the shitty side-character sections. Especially Agent 9 or whatever that monkey's name was.

As it stands 3 is my personal favourite, I think it has the best minigames though the level design is sometimes a bit weak.

>>330863112
Yeah something about 1 had some levels feel creepy and dangerous. Might be to do with the fact that there's very few talking NPCs, unlike in 3 where you get a brief at the start of every level.

The PlayStation 1 startup thing when you turn the system on, as well as the spyro startup screen would scare me as a kid. I would press the start button on the system and then run to the couch and cover half way under a blanket with my controller. Did anyone else kid scared at such stupid shit when they were young?

3 > 2 > 1

1 is a great base.
2 improves it mechanically.
3 takes those improvements, does more of it, and throws in some extra shit on top.

Also 3 has the best aesthetics/soundtrack.
Best boss fights as well.

Oh shit yeah, this too. It's like when you're watching TV alone at night and a monthly nuclear emergency test pops up with a low quality voice mumbling in the static

they were good games that i cherished when i was a kid

i really just dont care about them anymore

i already did my replays when i hacked my psp 5 or something years ago

But 2 had actual NPCs who talked to you and gave you a reason to do missions and get Orbs. Each level had its own species with loads of unique dialouge and NPCs.

Spyro 2 had an incredible amount of world-building for a kids game.

>>330863000
> Best levels
No. Each level was literally just a circle and the side missions were in their own mini-zone instead of being contained in the main level. Spyro 1 and 2 had a huge variety of level designs, linear, more open, looping and more. Spyro 2's side missions were all part of the main level which encourages good design because the level had to be used for a variety of things. In Spyro 3 main level and side objectives are seperate.

In Spyro 1&2 super-charge courses were built into the level design which made it interesting. In 3 they were seperate areas that had no function other than being supercharge courses.

> best music
I've heard it differs by what region and version, but my copy re-uses tracks endlessly. The Sunrise Spring track is used about 6 times. There are some good music, but the sheer number of levels with reused and I'll-fitting music is unforgivable.

And the mini games are shit.

ps1 and 2 were overflowing with power

how can the smartphone-tier sounds and menus of 3 and 4 even compete?

>mfw first booting up a PS3
I was so hyped to hear the startup and then it was just some flimsy stock orchestra_ready.wav shit

PS4, at least, has the dignity to pull back the self-aggrandizing a bit. Kinda sounds like the PSP game start if it were longer.
