The series is disgustingly bad at handling multi-enemy fights, and disgustingly bad at handling any form of ranged combat.

This fight in particular does both worse than anything else in the original DS.

Should stick to small packs of enemies, single bosses, melee only. Every other fight is always terrible.

only prob was that Ornesteins lunge attacks bugs when smough is infront of him. He stays in the back and then suddenly lunges forward. Problem here is that there is no time to react if he starts to bug behind smough.

What made O&S good is the fact that they're dramatically different enemies with different unique moves that complement one another. You have "big, slow heavy hitter" and "fast and nimble spearman with ranged abilities". It's a lot of fun watching them cover each others asses, and then learning how to use their weaknesses against them. Finally, when one dies, the other gains a unique power-up related to the other.
Most multi-bosses in the series (including Demon's Souls) suck shit because you're just fighting identical mobs, using identical moves. It makes them even easier to exploit, it's stupid as shit watching 2 "bosses" perform identical animations at the same time.
The Throneboys were even worse, because despite being "different" enemies, they fought in the same, uninspired style; they're just big knights, who halfway through the fight, enchant their weapon. Oh, and one of them does flips sometimes. It, and the following fight with Nashandra, perfectly illustrate the laziness of DaS2 as a whole.

It's fucking atrocious, they're way too fucking similiar which causes them to either attack in tandem or right after one another, the rest of the time they have their fucking shields up. It's practically impossible to get hits in without trading or out-ranging the fuck out of them. Oh, and they also have to be killed back to back or else they'll fucking resurrect so you can't even focus fire.

I've always felt the true Dark Souls starts at this boss. It's the first encounter I really felt my equipment and character was underleveled. As the game's own way of telling you to not take it lightly. It made me a better Souls player, having to be flexible with the lock-on mechanic and not be blocking constantly.

Both are cancer. The only good multi-boss fight is Skeleton Lords because they have reasonable health pools and a nice gimmick. Every other multi-boss fight is damage sponges with unfair gimmicks, terrible hitboxes and small windows of opportunity for attacks.

If DaS3 has those fucking Gargoyles again I'm going to be so pissed.

What does /v/ think of the Maneater fight from Demon's Souls? I honestly think it's one of the most unfair fights in the series considering that they're always fucking off into the sky and half the time you try to dodge their attacks it always seems to end up with you rolling off the edge

O&S are tough, but their differences, combined with having an appropriate arena, give you a lot of flexibility in how you approach

Not to mention the dual phase is short, because neither have much health (Ornstein's is pathetic), and you only have to kill one

The thrones have way too much health, boring movesets, a dumb arena, and you have to kill them close to the same time or they get back up
