>the antagonist is doing bad things for a legitimately good reason and working towards a greater good than the heroes can comprehend
>you still have to stop him

>This villan ultimately manages to accomplish his goal.
>It entirely fails to do what they had intended.
>I'm gonna free this ANCIENT EVIL
>But why?!
>Because I'm the bad guy!

>He gloats about his evil plan
>Only because it has already gone into effect and the heroes can't do anything to stop it

Tell me her name OP
>the villain monologues and explains his plan
>one of the hero's followers agrees with the plan and defects to join the villain
I'd like to see this, just once.

>ANCIENT EVIL is released
>Bad guy assumes he is it's master and will gain great power
>ANCIENT EVIL kills him and does whatever it wants
>defies it's own corrupt race to bring freedom to the lower beings
>succeedsTo be honest, Gerun is the real villain.

The only thing sadder is:
>bad guy awakens the ANCIENT EVIL
>throws himself at its mercy as a willing servant
>it kills him with no hesitation
>>330708467
Sounds like you just described WW2 OP.

Same here.
I'm tired of being Johnny Goodguy, I'd like to see more morally ambiguous protags and "bad guys" in my games.
Give me more shit where I have to really think about whether or not I am doing the right thing, and not the typical Bethesda "save baby/feed baby to rabid dogs" hard good/bad storylines.

Infamous 2 maybe?

>bads guy monologues to delay good guys so he can escape and destroy them
>"All I have to do is kill the king and all his dynasty and I can guarantee the suffering people of this land limitless food, water and eternal good health!"
>"Nah can't let you do that, the king's the king"
