Even though (platform)fighting games have relatively more black fans than other genres, video games in general are pretty white. Also, MvC and SF knowledge don't transfer over as much as they do to other fighters.
And there are a lot of old-school Nintendo fans(mostly white) that picked up the game because of the mascots.
