Hey /v/, I'm finally earning enough money so that I can afford an apartment, bills, student loans and have enough money on the side from sucking dick to build my own pc.

This is an old rig a friend set up for me in June of 2014. I'm looking at other options but looking for input on this. I don't want to spend more than around $1200 on it and ideally less than $1000. I also don't need too many bells and whistles (besides the case probably). I don't feel the need to run my games on SUPERULTRAFX I just want to be able to run games well and consistently.
It is also worth mentioning I don't know a whole lot about building PCs so keep that in mind as well.
tl;dr Help me build a midrange pc, I've never built a pc before.

If you're going to spend $500 on a garbage GPU just buy a 980ti
>>330415017
The GPU is shit. Do what he said >>330415330
You don't need a 500 Dollar card. You should be fine around 350-400. You could get a R9 390, it's a great card or buy the Nvidia equivalent.
inb4 muh amd
Don't be afraid to buy pre-loved, especially with new GPUs just around the corner. I got my GTX 980 for $250.
Holy shit, why is that 2GB turd $500 dollars?

i have that case, but black
its H U G E, but thats good in my case.
Only problem is that it came fucking dented, but newegg gave me 20 bucks back for that so its cool

>770
>500 bucks
NO. you could buy a 980 for that fucking price. if youre willing to spend that much on an ancient shitty card, you could get a 980 and have SUPERULTRAFXget a 970 or an r9 380 x
>>330415017
That 2014 build would still be fine today. Especially if you swap the GPU with 4GB variant of GTX 770, or get 970 instead.
Look up Youtube videos on how to build the PC from the parts. It's pretty much legos.

Watch the fucking sales sites
The biggest way to save money on building your PC is that everything goes on sale all the time. One day it might be RAM, another the GPU you've been looking at. Can't be too picky, but get a general idea of what you want and sit on it for a month checking that shit daily.
I had one friend get almost 50% off of everything between sales and rebates.

>or get 970 instead.

970 is still an overkill for most games.
You read that correct, chimp. In fact, it's easier than legos, since components only connect to each other in a pre-determined ways, into their own slots.

Get a gtx 960 for 180, core i5 and 8 gb of ram.
>>330422293
If you're settling for a 970 you might as well go for the r9 390. Cheaper and more powerful.
>>330422658
...and AMD shit = instant avoid.
>>330422293
This. Human eye can't see more than 3.5gb of vram anyway.
