Hey /v/, I feel like playing a game where I can build up my part and fight shit on my 3ds
I'm thinking the Etrian Oddysey series or Shin Megami Tensei games. What would you recommend for a relative beginner?

EOUMG is just fine to start with. Play it on Expert though.
Izuna, bro.
EOs are supposed to be good. I liked strange journey but watch for save data corruptions, I can't bring myself to restart after losing a save at Grus.

Is it too easy if it's not on expert?
>>330315250
Yes.

Expert in Untold is actually the same difficulty as the original DS version.
Good game choice, have fun and take your time learning the different skills, because creating characters doesn't cost money, and you can reset skill points any time. Once you get into grimoires, the game gets a lot deeper in terms of strategy.

Cool, I'll try that one first on expert, thanks anons
>constructive thread on /v/

And they said nighttime /v/ was dead.

I've been playing this game for some time (story mode), and honestly, I barely found any use for the grimoires.
The ones you generate by yourself are pretty much useless. The skills you get from them require you to use the weapon of the character that created the grimoire stone, and you really don't want to use those, because every character has quite clear weapon specialization.
Monster grimoires could probably be useful, but I haven't really encountered a must have monster skill, like for example White Wind blue magic in Final Fantasy.
The only really useful stones are the ones with fixed skills, I found in the treasure chests, like the hexer grimoire.
EO
the dark spire
is class of heroes or other wizardry games on ds?
Soul Hackers is my favorite
any crawlers for the pc or emulatables?
id play some of the 3ds games but im just gonna end up updating the firmware and get bored waiting for it
>>330316703
Pretty sure Clash of Heroes was 3DS
>>330316873
Legend of Grimrock comes to mind
>>330315192
It's more focused on group synergy and less emphasis on making one of your demons as strong as possible.
But both gameplay are fucking amazing.
>>330316834
What seperates it from smt 1,2,if and SJ?
>>330317021
there are a couple of other decent grid crawlers on steam or go back and play the dos games
http://store.steampowered.com/app/409450/
this one is pretty good
>>330317108
It's more story driven than the mainline games, never played if.
But it's actually very similar to SMT 1 and 2, gameplay-wise.
>>330317021
played both of it already
>>330317193
im getting motion sickness just by looking at the gameplay videos
do you have any low fidelity ones?
im probably go look up psp or even ps2 crawlers
i hear fromsoft made some dungeon crawlers for the ps2
>>330317479
you can turn the bob and motion blur etc off in game but it's mostly combat and standing still than running around
shadow tower abyss and kings field 4 are pretty good the older gamesaren't that interesting and kinda bare bones
there is also evergrace and eternal ring
ive heard wizardry tales of a forsaken land is ok on ps2 as well

It's similar to SMT1 and 2 because of the first person view and the magnetite system, and to SJ because of weapon/armor buffs and that you can equip apps for UI and fusion conveniences.
Besides that, the only major choice is your ally's element alignment. There are no separate routes. You also get a pet demon to feed and grow into a killing machine, weapon fusion, and demons that get mad and disobey if you give them a command they don't like (guarding when you tell them to heal.)
It's a good SMT, but some people like it more than others. If you can grind through the difficulty spike in the middle you'll be fine until endgame, and maybe even enjoy yourself. It goes on sale often, so nab it when it's $10

Cool shit, i like the idea of having a pet to raise
