part of me feels like something in the source engine, but only in aesthetic. the actual idea of having to download some old mod, making it work with steam's new fucktard system, and learning mechanics sounds tedious at best.
i have tons of very large games installed that I rarely play "just in case" and it ends up just taking massive amounts of space on my hard drive. yet I still can't bring myself to delete them. GTA V and Fallout 4 are good examples. I feel like i've put too much effort into modding them, so deleting them just means more work for future me.
i guess the reason I want to play a source engine game is because I miss when I first started getting into all of the mods and it felt like the content was always fresh and could never end. Gmod with TTT and DarkRP, Zombie Master, Zombie Panic Source, Dissolution, Slums, G-String, Portal, the fun alternate game modes like surfing and jailbreak in CS:S and TF2, Left 4 Dead.
I guess I just miss vidya being new and exciting all the time. I miss feeling like I had all the time in the world to enjoy it.why couldn't we stay in 2007-2009 forever?

It's really just more indicative of my larger problems. I'm getting kicked out of my house and the only friend I have who is going to be able to let me shack up with him lives in Arizona. I've lost control of everything. My GPA, my friends, my home, my childhood city, my state, my security, my family. I've always liked video games because they're incredibly consistent. GTA IV is always going to be 2008 NYC, Morrowind is always going to be at the tail end of the greatest era of an empire, it's always going to be consistent. It's the one thing I have control of in my life, but when that's gone for me, what's left?
Why bother working towards anything in life when it can all be taken away from you in mere weeks? Why bother improving what you have when it can just be flattened?

I used to feel the same way circa 2009.
Most of my favourite mid tier developers were all but wiped out by the jump to HD by then, very few AAA games interested me, and besides Persona, MGS4 and a few DS/PSP games there hadn't been a major Japanese release that had interested me in years.
Then 2010 came and things sort of started to "click" for me. I stopped looking at handhelds as second class citizen gaming systems, Indies started getting big, AAA studios began to make shit I cared about again, and I begun to branch out and try new stuff.
As far as I'm concerned the last six years have essentially been a new golden age for gaming.
