>/v/ shilling it shamelessly left and right

So how many rupees are you pajeets being paid to promote this shit?
>>
$2 a day
>>
>>329957398
only oldfags like us who saw the virtualboy and worse VR experiences know how hard this will fail
>>
I've preordred all the vr headsets
I built new PC just for it
I even bought an onihole and even learned modding to create my own vr porn games

I'll promote this shit for free
>>
Ever since the thing was declared basically Virtual Boy 2.0 with it's sub 15k sales poverty status, the only threads you see are shitpost threads like this where people rag on VR endlessly.
>>
>>329957740
This is what you sound like since you obviously haven't tried modern vr.

https://youtu.be/IlD08Rh6xa8
>>
>>329957740
Clearly because early 3D headsets were shit and failed 3D headsets will be shit and fail for all eternity.

The technology of strapping screens to our faces is at least 500 years away.
>>
>>329958073
not worth the price of admission. you probably ran out and bought a 3d tv thinking it's the future. Guess what? Samsung and Panasonic are abandoning 3D in all their newest models.

Just because something has potential doesn't mean it will succeed. It's all a matter of how many boneheads will buy it
>>
>>329958589
3d tv
who cares? VR is the future. 3dtv was a gimmick that nobody cared about. We've been dreaming about playing video games in VR since the 80's. Nobody ever wanted a 3d tv.
>>
>>329959370
>We've been dreaming about playing video games in VR since the 80's.
you got what you wished for and it failed miserably

Virtual Boy
>>
>>329958589
By comparing the two you are making my point for me. No one thought 3d tv was the future. You're incredibly naive or ignorant to think vr is a gimmick. The real test will be the speed of adoption/affordability. I've preordered vive and rift but I'm currently not a poor fag and think early adoption is worth it but the question of vr's mainstream adoption is "if" it's "when"
>>
>>329959370
even if VR is the future this gen will fail and you should know it, just for the fact the fucking thing is $600-800 and need a PC of the same price
there is no way this thing will have a big catalog of games
>>
>>329959598
Virtual boy wasn't virtual reality. You might as well call the viewmaster virtual reality.
>>
>>329960084
yea and occulus with mouse/kb/gamepad is not virtual reality either
>>
>>329959981
xbone was 500 and required a TV and a couch.
sure it helped that there was also a PS4, but there are also other VR headsets coming out, and the tech will only get cheaper.
VR is the future. Games will be made for it because people will want to buy them.
>>
>>329959736
yup, i knew it. Another entitled faggot trying to justify his purchase.

And yes, people did think 3d was the future. you must be a child or just plain stupid. prob both. That's why all tv manufactures jumped on the band wagon. No one is going to invest in something that doesn't appear proimising. They wish 3d would have taken off but

DUE TO LACK OF CONTENT, 3D FAILED.
no games = no purchase
>>
>>329960252
The occulus is much closer to real virtual reality, and will get the touch controllers eventually. The holodeck won't happen instantly.
>>
>>329960372
>>329958589
Hype around 3D != 3D TVs. Why do people keep making this mistake? 3D on a TV is terrible compared to the theater. That's why it failed. Guess what, every huge blockbuster is still 3D and it's hard to find 2D showings.
>>
What does "shilling" actually mean anymore? I see nothing but negativity for this product but it is new and fresh so people want to discuss it. Can users not discuss new things at all because its considered shilling? If so then what's the point of this or any other forum?
>>
>>329960372
yeah, nah. 3d tv's one year, curved tv's the next.
nobody ever cared about it, it was just a feature they wanted as a bullet point for the salesmen at bestbuy to bring up.

Except it isn't. You clearly haven't tried it. The 3D is very different in VR than a 3D TV. I lost all hype for 3D for movies after I saw Avatar and I was one of the first to see it with their 10 min preview. I was out there calling it terrible while people were giving interviews outside the theater hyping it up.

VR is a different beast all together.

You do not have this sort of depth with 3D TVs, you can't do it.

You only have two eyes and theres only one type of three dimension.

No, it literally is not because it uses a completely different and more natural method to provide depth perception. This is factual truth, if you don't believe me, look up how a 3D TV works and then look up how these 3D headsets work.

FoV has little to do with depth perception. But thanks for bringing up another point. You can't get a full encompassing field of view with a monitor.

Except that depth starts at your monitor and you have issues with traditional 3D setups that VR doesn't have like ghosting and cross talk.

Actual VR, like complete immersion, fully realistic representations of all senses? Very, very far. Decent 3D with headtracking is pretty much here though, but I'm really not convinced about these waggling revival controllers.
>>
I do it for free. Once you've tried it, it's hard to go back to a regular monitor for a bunch of games when you think about how amazing everything is in VR. You can really tell when someone hasn't tried it when they spout the usual stuff like the crap in the 90s or 3D TVs. It isn't even in the same ballpark.
>>
>>329957398
>literally NO GAMES
Well of course not. VR is finally brand new after being conceived 30 years ago. Do you think developers bought the dev kits? No, it was children on youtube who bought it for their ETS2 LPs. Give it a couple of years.

TRIGGERD, no way am I paying the insane price of 1,000 for a small LCD screen on my head when I can import a 1080p 144hz 1ms response time monitor for much less and be perfectly fine.
>>
>>329962635
That's fine. I agree the price is pretty high right now but it'll go down in time. Mostly rebutting the fact that people see it as a fad. VR isn't going anywhere. It might not replace all gaming as we know it today but it's going to be a big part of it for sure.

BTW these headsets use OLED and actually have sharper motion than any LCD screen. They kinda have to.

People thought 3D TVs were the future? I don't know anyone that said that. Everyone I heard talk about 3D TVs were they were neat, but none of them would actually buy one. Best Buy and other stores had them on display and it was always empty. No one gave a shit about 3D TVs.

This. God, what alternate dimension did you fucks come from? Just because companies pushed it doesn't mean anyone gave a shit.

The VR hype comes from the people themselves, this shit literally sells itself. You don't need marketing for VR, you just need people to try it.

Find me one person who has tried the consumer version of this new VR that hates it and thinks it will fail like you do.

Like someone who has tried it on who feels the same way.
>>
>>329957398
I'll wait for future iterations of VR tech before I drop $600+ for a fancy monitor that i can wear on my head.

I'm not impressed so far.

Virtual desktop is going to support both the rift and the vive.

People spend more money than either headset costs on computer monitors and TVs.

I would get a VR headset even if their only purpose was to run virtual desktop because I want to watch movies on a moon sized TV in space.

>I would get a VR headset even if their only purpose was to run virtual desktop because I want to watch movies on a moon sized TV in space.

You should know the resolution is pretty poor for this. I don't see the appeal until we can actually have virtual monitors in that space without the fake monitor hacks but that's going to take some crazy work to get working in Windows. Maybe Linux is easier with Wayland.
>>
>>329965492
The first wave sold out in literally minutes. If you plan on picking one up now you're gonna have to wait till june before it actually ships.
>>
This isn't a console war thing is it?
>>
>>329965875
The resolution point is valid depending on the source vid, 720p would be fine.
>>
>>329966039
It's going to be worse than 720p. It depends more on how much you make the desktop fill your vision. For the usual distance that most people sit from their monitor it's about 40 degrees, it's going to be SD resolution at size/distance.
>>
>>329966205
Yeah but realistically the virtual screen is going to take up 90% of your display, vive is like 1200p or something
>>
>>329966039
>>329965875

The moon thing was really just an example, I just like the idea of being able to use it for my normal non-vr vids and games and stuff as a sort of chillout simulator

So I can sit on a nice beach or on an alien planet or in the arctic or somethin while watching my normal shit instead of this sad gross desk.

>>
>>329966368
Fair point, for some reason I thought the display would have more horizontal view space. Only VR I've tried was the DK1 VERY briefly and I don't remember much about it
>>
>>329966351
>but realistically the virtual screen is going to take up 90% of your display

Actually that isn't realistic. It's really not comfortable at all having a huge screen like that. You basically have to look way at the edge of your vision to see the corner of your screen. Even closing a maximized window is a chore that way. There's a reason why 40 degrees is most common.

This is why I want more than 4 windows with hacks. This way you could have multiple work spaces to the side or something.
>>
>>329966530

Its totally variable in virtual desktop, shud look into it. Flatscreen or curved screen, closer or further away, different environments, ect.
>>
I doubt theres any vr shilling going on here, they mostly seem to be focused on the sort of people that watch big bang theory and like to show everyone how cool their new phone apps are.
>>
>>329965825
You can use VR headsets even if you have eye issues. IIRC there was a case a while back where someone without depth perception could see depth with VR.
>>

3dtv was a gimmick.
3d cinema is ok, but it doesn't really make the movie better.
