Change it from a Smash rip-off and make it either a Power Stone style game or a turn based or Action RPG.
Add new characters both well known and niche from different games such as Pyramid Head, Brave Fencer Musashi, Tomba, Laharl, Old Snake, Someone from Dragon's Crown, a Neptunia character, Lara Croft, Dart, Yu Narukami, etc
Remove Big Daddy and Donte
Add Wander, Kat, Q*bert and Cloud
Abe from Abe's Odysee/Exodus
Dart from Legend of Dragoon

Fuck man, so many great playstation exclusives to choose from, does Sony actually even own a single person I just mentioned? There really are so many amazing playstation games, I feel like if you could just add my list of characters alone without taking anyone else the roster would be fine, then just fix the battle system.
Remove Donte, Evil Cole, Big Daddy Heihachi, Nariko, Zeus and Raiden
Add Dante, Snake, Cloud, 3D Dot Game Hero, Motorstorm Racer, the character from Journey, Oliver from Ni no Kuni, Abe, and a car from Gran Turismo.

Take out Evil Cole and just make Evil Delsin so they still have both karmas repped. Replace new Dante with old Dante because people were so hurt over that decision.
Add a Final Fantasy character, the real problems will be that Smash idiots are gonna tease the game with whoever is chosen

Can you blame them though? Its a legitimate point. Why Cloud is in Smash but not Playstation Smash is beyond me and is a failure that probably deserves to be mocked. Don't hate them for pointing out the truth, the best thing to do is wipe the jizz off of Playstation's chin and come back with a great game instead. There are plenty of other good Final Fantasy characters for Playstation Smash.

Because PlayStation All Star wasn't a serious undertaking. If it was fully backed by Sony, it could've had Cloud. Instead it was handed to a small studio with no reputation so they couldn't get the right to characters unless they were for advertising or easily accessible

If you think there is nothing wrong with the game then you are being intentionally dishonest with yourself friend. The gameplay and presentation are both absolute shit. And keep in mind how important the roster is in this type of game, it isn't a small detail to be glossed over. Its 95% of what people talk about in these types of games, even if the game is actually good the roster is still the biggest talking point. I own the game dude, its complete shit that at best only makes you want to play smash instead.

Because Playstation Smash had a smaller budget and there wasn't a lot of money to throw around to use characters from more well-known IPs
Whereas Smash 4 is not only a huge franchise for Nintendo that would warrant a much larger budget but is also established, has been successful before and is basically guaranteed free marketing

The way I look at it, its better to not share characters between the franchises. If both games have Cloud, then Cloud isn't special for either of them. I think rather then saying "Look guys, they have Cloud, so we got him now too!" they should focus more on getting their own shit that Nintendo has not and will not touch. Even if they were going to have another FF7 character, I'd rather they take Sephiroth than Cloud. Its hard for me to really put my thought into words so I hope you understand what I mean. Why directly compete with Smash when there are so many other great characters Sony can have all for themselves?

Yes I understand that, and it makes sense. But at the end of the day the reason doesn't matter, the game is bad, and that's all that counts. I'm not even sure you could claim that a small niche audience cares about Playstation Smash, Smash 64 has a bigger scene than Playstation Smash.
Also I hate having to keep saying Playstation Smash but their title just fucking sucks, I'm not going to type PSASBR every time, that's ridiculous. Title is another thing they should have done better.
