>>
>>329829935

disgusting casual

>>329828541

it's great, you can also play it with revision if you feel bored by vanilla
>>
i wish they'd remake it. keep everything the same but give it better graphics
>>
>>329828541
Because it gives you a playground, a box of toys and some directions, instead of keeping you in a hallway with scripted setpieces. And because it uses references that make you feel smart, even though they'll mostly go over your head if you don't have a background in history, philosophy and literature.
>>
its good, its cool, i like it

Why don't you try getting a job?

It's a great RPG that always gives you multiple opportunities to tackle an objective.
>>
>>329829935
what a shame
>>
>>329832282
options* not opportunities
>>
>>329828541
Objectively the best game of all time, opinions don't matter.

What are some other games inspired by ultima underworld?

Try Threadbare's LP.

I played it for the first time recently. I didn't really like it that much, which is surprising because on paper it really sounds like my kind of game. I guess it has to do with the fact the individual gameplay elements are pretty underwhelming on their own, and the need to adapt level design to every playstyle means that if you decide to really explore you end up finding five different paths that all lead to the same place, and a shitload of duplicate keys and passwords.

despite the horrible textures, models, and voice acting, this game has arguably the best mechanical level design of all time.

virtually every level can be looked at as a puzzle with a pretty diverse set of ways to solve.

the combat could have been better, but the fact that you could specialize a lot of different ways helped.

Super Hot

The voice acting's so bad that if a remake were made I don't care who they got as a VA nothing would ever be as good as the original
It's not so bad it's good, is gone beyond that, it's so bad its utterly irreplaceable and probably my favourite example of VA in vidya.

Within the specific domain of the character you're playing, and the part of his life the game simulates, DX is basically the closest thing to a Human Simulator that's been done.

Not to say it's even close to being a human simulator. But it's the closest a game has gone in that direction.

And arguably that's pretty close to the goal of any escapist entertainment: to transport you into an experience other than your real one.

You could even argue that the rise of gaming culture - in its many subdivisions - is a reaction to the increasing failure if games to offer this kind of simulationist escapism. Since games themselves fail to offer adequately transformative escape, players build subcultures and community identities around games to increase the escapist quality of the activity (one person at work, another in front of the screen, not due to genuine suspension of disbelief, but projection of self into that artificial community).

Cut this shit out. The VA is excellent for the most part.
