If Sticker Star had a story half as good with more than, like, 2 recognizable original characters, it would've been fine. But they trashed everything.

I liked the story. Most of the people who used that survey weren't even fans, just casual people who played the game. Basically the casuals fucked over Paper Mario by not giving a shit about the story.

No, they wanted to do something different, to push story a little more. This was in a Nintendo Power interview back in 2007. They even said they would go back to the old formula when they were finished with this, which is the main reason I was open to playing it.

I hate to break it to you but you are the cancer here, friend. You're mad that a video game didn't have a good enough story for you, while instead offering a brand new experience that, while being in a more generic setting, had brand new gameplay and level design and a focus on puzzles (in other words actually playing the game and not walking go every major town just to talk to one guy). What do you want them to do? TTYD already expanded on 64 in every way (though I feel wasn't as good), they did what they could with the series and it's time to move on.

The gameplay in Paper Mario has never been nor will it ever be anything more than functional and alright. It's fun, that's all it needs to be. What made Paper Mario good was the characters and the distinct feeling of having an adventure. Every chapter had you going somewhere new, meeting peculiar new characters, and doing something different.

Participating in a fighting tournament? Being a detective on a train? Getting your body stolen from you by a ghost? Fighting your way out of the underworld all the way into heaven? Those were the things that made the game great.
